HBO is thinking of allowing standalone HBOGO purchase with a cable internet service.

Plepler said late Wednesday that HBO GO could be packaged with a monthly Internet service, in partnership with broadband providers, reducing the cost.

Customers could pay $50 a month for their broadband Internet and an extra $10 or $15 for HBO to be packaged in with that service, for a total of $60 or $65 per month, Plepler explained.

I would take that service!

I don't see much of an advantage unless you just wanted to be all IPTV.

I would expect it to be the $15/month price and not the $10 mentioned, and if that is so, then the savings is only $3/month.

No, the point is that HBO becomes available ala-carte instead of an add on to a $100 cable TV package. I would buy this as well, especially if it tied to the Roku HBO-GO app.

Huh? It's A La Carte now, on even most any low package...... As Lparsons21 said, only an advantage if you go all IPTV. Not sure for $3 I would give up not being able to record from the Dish receiver either even if I could get it just as HBOGO.

terminology?
I cut the TV service from TWC, but kept HS internet. I currently cannot subscribe to HBO-GO without subscribing to at least a basic cable TV package.

To get HBO on Dish you have to get their $20 package then get HBO for $18, minimum of $38 (well 37.99).

As has been already stated, the pricing they are talking about will only benefit those that currently do not have paid TV.

The hypothetical $15 for streaming vs $18 for everything would not be enough of a price difference to convince me to drop the linear channels and go all streaming. Until the ISPs provide a clearer picture of the future of home broadband (potential tiers, caps, pricing, etc.), I think the option to use a DVR to record what I want from the linear channels and save bandwidth is worth the $3 difference.

If it's under $10, then I would find the stand alone pricing more compelling.

If I could get HBOGO/MAXGO/Showtime anytime without a PayTV subscription I would probably do that.
