Hi,
I've read on these forums and I think I know what I need, but I just want to confirm it'll work.

I currently have a DP512 receiver hooked up to an old dish; not sure what type of dish, but it's close to 10 years old now. I am currently connected to satellite 61.5 and subscribed to an Arabic Chanel package.

I just got a 612 receiver which I would like to use instead of my DP512. From what I have read I can't use my existing 10 year old dish pointed at 61.5 with the 612 receiver. I will be getting a dish 500 system that will connect to 110, 119 and 118.7 with a DPP34 kit. This will allow me to use my 612 receiver and still get my Arabic channels.

Is there a better setup I should go with? Id like to have only 1 cable from the dish to the receiver (if possible). And is there any way I could incorporate my current DP512 receiver (say in another room for example)?

Thanks for any replies.

First is first if your trying to get 118.7 you need a 500+ dish not a 500. The 118.7 is FFS, and requires a special LNB to receive. Now on to the VIP 612. It is a HD receiver so if you want HD programming on it you will also need the 129* which can be had by adding a DP Dual/Single to the 129* bracket that will come with the 500+ kit making it a 1000+. Now as far as getting all that to work with your 612 (and the 512) you will need a switch. A Dish Pro 34 switch will allow you to connect three LNBs to the receivers, but you will have to run two lines to each receiver. A Dish Pro Plus 33 switch will be the same except you will only have to run one line to each receiver, but you will need the separator on each receiver. Last but not least if you choose to reuse your 61.5* slot, or the 129* (61.5 does have most of the core HD programming, but there was a few channels just launched that are not on it, and supposedly much of any new programming will not be in the 61.5*) you will need a Dish Pro Plus 44 switch. Again just as it sounds it accepts 4 LNBs, and will output to 4 receivers using one coax per receiver, and the separator at the back of any DPP receiver. Any of these switches will allow you to use both receivers at the same time. There are other routes you can follow to achieve your desired outcome, but all will require two dishes, and probably cost you more in hardware unless you have any of the equipment lying around. Also there is going to be a Dish Pro Plus 500+/1000+ kit out on the market some time in the near future, but I have no clue as to when it will be made available. It would allow you to alleviate any external switch, and connect your receivers directly to the LNB.

Thanks scoobyxj for the info, and yes I meant the 500+ dish. Ok, I think I know how to proceed now; I'll keep the 61.5 dish and install a 500+ dish with a DPP44 switch and run 1 line to each of my receivers.

Final few things I want to make sure of before I buy the dish and switch:

I was told the arabic channels are available on 118.7; can anyone confirm this?

Since I will have 4 LNB's (110, 119, 118.7, 61.5), will both my receivers be able to connect to all 4 satellites? I'm just concerned here because my current 512 receiver has only 1 input while the 612 receiver will be using the separator. Any differences between the 2 receivers in my setup?

Are there any location issues I should be concerned about? I'm in the north eastern part of the continent.

I've attached a sketch of my proposed setup to make it easier to follow. Any further comments and suggestions would be really appreciated.

Actually a better set up would be to use a 1000.4 dish and have the 118.7 go in to the input port on the 1K.4. This is better for Three reasons. First it is much cheaper, Second you have fewer connections for water to get in especially if you mount the switch externally, (which your not supposed to do any way), and third the setup you are prepossessing would not get all the new HD channels, you need 129 or 72.5 for that. If you need a 1000.4 dish I can sell you one brand new in the box ($53.75+shipping) I can be contacted a (608)429-4900.

Well I don't have a 500+ dish yet; so your suggestion would mean i'd have to buy both a 500+ and a 1000.4.

At this point i'd really just be interested in getting a 500+ dish with a DPP44. Do you have any of those? And do you ship to Canada?

Also, can anyone else confirm:

Are the Arabic channels available on 118.7?

Will both my receivers be able to connect to all 4 satellites in my suggesting setup (see my attached file above)?

Thanks,

Thanks,

yes it would. You are also right about your about 512 no longer functioning with this setup. But dish's changes to the satellites make this a real mess. if your HD locales are on 61.5, to get HD locales, foreign language programing, ALL the the national HD programing and keep your 512, you need a five orbit install (119/110/118/61.5/72 or 119/110/118/129/61.5) witch is a real pain to in stall. If any one of those is dropped it would mean you only need a for orbit in stall (no HD locals or they are on a different sat[119/110/129/118], only some of the HD programing[119/110/118/61.5], upgrade your 512 [61.5/72/77/118], you could also drop the foreign language programing but I'm not even going bother with that.

Now as for the 44 switch a new one by it's self its $99. The 500+ without a 44 switch is also $53.75. As for shipping to Canada we ship anywhere ups does.
