I have been a member here for years, but this is my first post. For over 8 years I have had DirectTV SD service. I have always purchased my equipment (Receivers & Dishes) and have done all the installations myself. I purchased a couple of H20 receivers and a Slimline dish from an Ebay vendor around Christmas of last year. I waited about installing them until this week.
I read several posts here about D forcing customers to upgrade their grandfathered packages to a current package in order to make changes to their account using the DTV web page. Since I have the Opcion Ultra Especial package I decided to install the H20 receivers while I could still upgrade to HD by talking to a rep on the phone.
I installed the SlimLine dish and called in and had 3 of my SD receivers turned off and had the 2 H20s activated. The rep asked where I got the receivers. I answered Ebay. He said he had to check something; when he returned, he said everything was fine and he activated them. He then told me that since I had purchased the receivers from Ebay, I would own them and not lease them. He said that he would make a note on my account that the receivers were owned. He said that since the access card department was closed at that time, I should call the access card department the next day and make sure the receivers were properly entered into their system as owned. I called back the next day and requested the access card department, told them I wanted the receivers listed as owned, and the lady read the note placed on my account by the rep that activated my receivers. She said that she would be happy to do that and she did. Great! I was expecting her to say that the receivers were leased. I guess I hit the jackpot with the CSR who activated my boxes. After what I have read here, I fully expected the receivers to be leased. I never mentioned ownership or leasing to the rep that activated them. He voluntarily told me the receivers were mine and told me he was making a note on my account and told me to call the access card department the next day to make sure it was done properly. Again, Great! I like owning my equipment, even if it does go bad and I have to replace myself.
The SlimLine dish was bit trickier to get dialed in than the round (101 only) dish that it replaced. I believe my transponder numbers are good, but I see momentary very slight pixalition in certain parts of the picture on some HD channels. Channel 209 does this quite a bit.
I have attached some screen shots of my transponder numbers. How do they look? Do I need to try to dial in the dish better to eliminate the pixalition, or is this just a bandwidth problem with the HD DTV service that should be fixed by D over time?
