Will I just removed HBO, and Cinemax from my account. $29 bucks a month. I would have kept them but with the 60 bucks in PPV charges that where put on my account for some crazy reason, and my need to make up for it I am gonna go without for the next year at least.

Need to see if I am under contract too, cause right now Direct TV is not looking to bad, I kind of like there HR34 reciever and might try to get myself one of them.

Done been that route, was told what was rented, like 4 barney shows or something, now I do have a kid that likes to watch on netflix, not on the dish on demand, and she would not have my pin to rent them anyway. no one does, so this is how I am going to recoup the money from that one. and if I see anymore charges I am leaving.

One thing I have hated forever is the damn channel 1 VOD channels, that is the most annoying thing in the world, I swear every other day I go and hit select to turn on the box and it is on channel 1 for some reason.

When Channel 1 VOD was invented in order to put more PPV stuff in our face, all of a sudden a number of us were charged for PPV events we never ordered. I claim this was a firmware bug to which Dish never admitted, since I never had this problem before.

At that time (before DIRT) I started a chat with Dish and had them zero out my PPV credit limit. No more spurious charges. ;) No more PPV of any sort, for that matter. I haven't missed it. Except for the occasional 99c movie, they are greatly overcharging for the convenience.

That's what the CSRs say, but in my case there are no such neighbors. In any case, zeroing out the PPV credit limit fixes that problem too.

If you send me a PM with your phone number or account number, I can look into this further for you.

Just based on your post, I'm betting they were indeed charged from your receiver. Of the couple of clues the one that jumps out is that it was on the VOD channel when you turned on the receiver. Someone was watching that channel.
That channel can be made to not even be seen in any guide btw.

I have seen channel 1 VOD pop up on mine as well because I hit the wrong button or something and I never rented any movies so that doesn't mean he rented a movie because it was on that channel. He said he locked out the PPV so even if it was on a PPV channel the PIN would have to be known to purchase the movie. I know of others that got incorrect charges on their bill and a call got them taken off. I know that for a while now it has been very difficult for people to get these incorrect charges off of their bill.

I have taken dozens of calls with complaints about accidently ordering a VOD movie on channel 1. One lady figured it out, her kid liked to watch Nickeloden which I think is channel 178 and is slow on the remote. So they would press 1 on the remote and if you didn't enter the rest of the numbers it would default to a PPV. The kid didn't know how to get the PPV screen off and would accidently order a movie.

If Dish won't remove the charges, write a letter to your state attorney general and watch how fast the charges get removed from your bill :D

Yes, it does mean exactly that. The VOD channel 1 can not be the channel showing when you turn on your receiver, or I will qualify, it can't on my VIP612, UNLESS you were actually watching it. It goes to channel 101 otherwise, or the first channel higher than it in your guide if you pick channel 1, then see you need a password, don't do anything else and turn off the receiver. Turn it back on and it will not be on channel 1. If you actually were watching a movie, and turn it off, yes, the receiver can be back to VOD 1, but you will need to re-enter the password.
That's the first thing.

Second, it amazes me what people will blame a company for, in this case Dish. Lets be clear, the VOD 1 channel can have a password protection, and/or, can be completely eliminated from all guides. If you choose a password your son or daughter can figure out, that is the fault of Dish how??
Go ahead, call your Attorney General if you want to make fool of yourself. There are plenty of ways to keep others from ordering movies built in.
In the case of the OP, someone in his family has figured out the password, if he is correct and there is a password, it's the only way the receiver can be tuned to it after being off. He said many times it has been on channel 1 when he turns on the receiver, well that's probably why he has a $60 bill.

Unfortunately, the VOD 1 channel cannot be permanently eliminated from the guides. Even if you set a channel lock for VOD 1 on the 722, the VODs reappear in the guide a day or two later. Other PPV channels, as well as the adult channels do not behave this way. If you lock out any other channel, 'hide locked', and lock the receiver, other channels are eliminated from the guides for good.

This issue is present on both my 722 receivers, and used to be present on my 622 as well. Not sure if this has something to do with an OTA channel using channel 1 in our area. However, I do agree that tuning to a channel 1 VOD accidently, does prompt for a password each time, when PPV is locked. However, it would be better if the channel 1 VODs can be permanently removed from the guides.

Please just PM your info to Matt to find. I know you said you used DIRT. But did you possibly confuse them w/ those CSR's on the phone on chat? Anyway would just like to know what happened. And if they were VOD 1 uses someone has figured out the password.

actually I will also say this, a customer does not go from renting maybe 2 PPV movies in 6-7 years of being with Dish to 8-10 in one month without something being wrong. The other thing, my box only shows one movie being rented in its history not 8-10. and yes, my box will be on channel 1 all the time when you turn on the reciever in the morning, even though I was the last one to watch it before going to bed, and the first one up in the morning.

As for a neighbor being on the same remote address, you would notice it while watching tv once in awhile with the channel changing or something of that nature. I seriously doubt my neighbor figured out what channel my remote was on, and then changes his once in awhile to order a PPV movie and then sits back and laughs as I complain about getting charged. (although, I admit this would be funny :) )

You do know how to Block channels from the guide using a password right? You can also turn the banner off easily that advertises the pay per views and you never see it again.

To turn off the banner in your guide:

Hit menu
#8 preferences
#1 guide format
Banner: OFF

To Block any channels like pay per views :

Menu
#5 LOCKS
#2 channel locks- pick the channels you what blocked:#1, #500- 558 ,#480-499.
#6 Lock PPV
#7 Hide adult - if you don't want porn channels
#8 HIDE LOCKED
#3 LOCK SYSTEM- promted to create a password. I use my house number so I can remember it easily.

No more channel 1 or pay per views or adult channels in your guide.

Thanks! I should have included that rundown with my post. To anyone who says you can't hide it permanently you need to carefully see the options above. If you chose in the menu #5 - locks, then #2 Channel locks, then check 1 VOD, then be sure to HIDE LOCKED, and that the system is locked when you are done you will not see that channel, it can not reappear it is blocked, not just locked.

And if you just lock the PPV, you have a password, so while it may reappear (I agree I have seen posts about that in the past) it still can't be used, unless of course as I said someone in the family knows the password.

Then you do not have that channel locked, or it was unlocked to watch a program it's really as simple as that. It can not be on that channel when you turn on the receiver unless it is an unlocked channel, or you were actually watching it before turning it off.

You're welcome. I hope that works for you.
