GoogleTV

I'm starting to like using GoogleTV but for the life of me, I just can't see the justification in the $4.00 integration charge. There is nothing that I can't do with the standard remote that GoogleTV can do with the dvr. This might be the deal breaker for me to send it back....ken

No need to send it back. Just call them and say no more integration please. Bam, you have the box for a small discount and it is no longer integrated.

Does anyone know if we can get the box without the $4 integration service? I don't really care about it integrating with my DVR...
Amazon.com is offering the Logitech Revue for $299.99.

I'm not convinced that it will come without some sort of integration. You may be better off buying a PS3 or some future Android/ChromeOS box.

DISH Network’s Enhanced Google TV Solution Now Available to Subscribers for $179

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Nov. 10, 2010, (NASDAQ: DISH) – DISH Network L.L.C. (Nasdaq: DISH) today announced that DISH Network’s Google TV solution is now available to customers for the lowest price on the market: $179. By combining robust search capabilities and the variety of content on the Web with DISH Network's onscreen programming data, DVR and Video on Demand content, DISH Network delivers a seamless entertainment experience resulting in the most advanced integration of Google TV on the market.

“Only DISH Network customers will have access to the most fully-featured Google TV experience available, which includes our unique pairing protocol for simultaneous search capabilities across Web and DVR content, as well as DISH Network’s VOD programming,” said DISH Network Chief Marketing Officer Ira Bahr. “Customers can now surf the Web, check email, interact with social media, and find additional online television content all from the comfort of their living room sofa.”

“Google TV makes the Web another channel on your TV by bringing the Internet together with the TV programming you know and love," said Rishi Chandra, lead product manager for Google TV. "We're excited to work with DISH Network to bring an enhanced Google TV experience to its subscribers so they can find even more content to watch - whether on their DVR, TV or the Web.”

DISH Network’s Google TV solution, which requires a DVR integration service of $4 per month, includes the Logitech Revue with Google TV, a small set-top box available for a special price of $179 (MSRP $299) – an exclusive deal for DISH Network customers. The Google TV experience is compatible with DISH Network ViP series HD DVR satellite TV receivers including the ViP 622, ViP 722 and ViP 722k.

Customers can order by logging in to their DISH Network account at DISH Satellite TV - $24.99 & HD Free For Life - Let's Watch TV or by calling 800-894-9131. Equipment will be shipped directly to the customer. After the Revue is connected, a helpful onscreen wizard walks the customer step-by-step through the simple set-up process.

DISH Network also makes its enhanced Google TV experience available to customers who purchase a Logitech Revue or Sony Internet TV powered by Google TV from retail outlets; however, the special $179 offer is only available when customers order directly from DISH Network. That's s great question though. I mean you can pay the integration fee for 24 months and still save a few bucks over buying from Best Buy or Amazon. But if you have to pay the fee for as long as you own the box or dish, then that would be crazy.

I'm using mine with a 922.

I agree that it probably isn't worth it. Using the Revue with my 922, I can still search the guide for upcoming shows. For instance the other night I wanted to know what time the Celtics were on. In the search bar it brought up that they were on later that evening (7:00PM) on Comcast NE. I could not schedule a recording directly (one button), however I could turn either to the guide or to the channel they were on and set up the recording all using the Logitech Keyboard. I pretty much know what is on my DVR and can still access all those recordings without ever picking up the 922 remote. If there isn't an obligation to pay it then I will cancel but either way will keep the Revue. I really am enjoying the features - watched a Sons of Anarchy I missed when FX wasn't available using Amazon and the quality was great (despite my relatively slow internet: DL 1.0 mbs).

So your not paying the integration fee on the 922? Let see $6 for dvr service and now $4 for dvr integration, that's $120 a year, seems a lot. I received my local over the air, GoogleTV doesn't even see these channels. Where's the integration their. I could see maybe a $9.99 onetime integration fee but for who knows how long a $4 fee. The Roku Box 99.99 is looking good. just my thoughts...ken

I'm struggling on whether or not I should get the revue...

and a question, HDMI from dish>google>tv
Optical from google>bose system

Is this correct?

If someone can cancel the $4.00 integration fee and not pay a penalty please post.

In the e-mail I got from dish telling me that the google box is available they made it clear that the $4.00 fee is on going.

So is it safe to say that updates and upgrades will all be given to this unit? Or will a "new" version be coming out in 6 months-year. I would hate to spend the money on this unit, only for it to be outdated in a years time and have to buy another one.
I know Dish for example likes to come out with new boxes (622, 722K, ect.) and then not much later come out with something new (922). If thats the case, I'm sure the next generation will be much better and probably worth waiting for.

For $300, they better provide updates! Upgraded models are your enemy. Newer models by Logitech might well grab their corporate attention and they could abandon owners of the Revue. Forget Echostar's record; think of Logitech's record of orphaned products. (I honestly don't know what it is.) Note that other manufacturers are going to be manufacturing GoogleTV boxes, and I'll bet the price will fall to a more reasonable level (sub $100?) shortly thereafter. That's what I'm waiting for.

I think its safe to say the 922 will continue gettinig updates.

I do expect the next generation receiver will be an upgrade to the 922. If I had a say in things it would have at least 4 satellite tuners, the ability to add 2 OTA tuners, the new 922 interface and menus, a built in Slingbox (that uses satellite tuner 4 only), built in Google TV and has room for built in expandable storage so that it will act as your video nas for the entire house. It would also offer MRV to other receivers in your house.

It would also support the WIFI monitor (which would share tuner 4 since its Sling.)

And would support HD out to TV2 via the Sling adapter over Cat 5 cable or WIFI.

The third tuner would be the default recording tuner so it did not interfere with TV1 TV2 or the Slingbox viewer. Any tuner that is unused could download VOD content or updates.

That would be my dream upgrade to the 922.

The problem is it's a typical Dish ambiguous statement:

* MSRP is $299. Discounted price is for DISH Network customers only. Limit one per account. Monthly DVR Integration Service will apply. Requires broadband Internet. Available with compatible DISH Network receiver models only (ViP® 622, 722, 722k). Restrictions may apply for existing customers to upgrade. Subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply.

Cant wait my contract over with dish on 2012.. And drop the damn expensive dish and say hello to Internet TV is free & is AWSOME that’s the way to go!

Just hope your ISP does not shut you off for using too much bandwidth. The lack of bandwidth is my big fear about IPTV here in the United States.

BINGO Scott, and right on the money. People are looking with Rose colored glasses at the internet being the future of "all the free tv I want. YIPEE!!!!" Wake up dummies. Your ISP is still in control here, and bandwidth, throttling, and just the cost of a decent speed are going to go through the roof within the next 5 years. Especially if this is the way corporate sees everyhting going. TV via the internet.

Do all of you still think that Netflix will offer their free streaming as part of their DVD package's? I have to laugh. They will DEFINITELY break it off and make it an additional, or standalone cost. One you will not like.

This kinda reminds me of the Social Security letter I get every telling me how much I would be getting, "in TODAY'S DOLLARS IF I RETIRED"(I am 37). Friggin hilarious knowing that for all intents and purposes, SS will most likely be long dead/bankrupt by the time I retire, which of course will probably be raised to the age of 68 or 70, because people live longer.

Still want the cheapest entertainment around, but you would have to sacrifice alot of the viewing you have now? Put up an antenna for BOTH OTA TV and terrestrial radio. Both still offer quite a fair amount of entertainment, and get a Library card. Reading books is still enjoyable, plus you get the added benefit of getting DVD rentals either for FREE or $1. This really the ONLY way to stick to the man, and save a TON of money. And with all you save, you can/will live comfortably. Without Cable/satellite TV of course.

If we go to all IPTV the broadband providers are going to be just like the electric company. You're going to pay for broadband by the kilobyte just like you pay the electric company by the kilowatt hour today. That charge isn't going to save you a dime, in fact it will probably be more expensive.
