Goodbye Dish Network

Obviously. I was just trying to see if it was a day, a week, or more. Can't imagine this slipped though the cracks for long.

Because it would be easier for my wife to operate.

Ahh, now I understand. :biggrin2 Imagine going from a Genie to a Hopper - that is what I just did. Best way to do it is just rip off the bandaid, tell her it isn't supported anymore and get a Joey. She will love it in the long run and it will save you money.

I Had a 622 and hopper on the same account for awhile than switched over to a joey to save some money .no problems at all.

How long have the Hopper and 722k been active together? I'm surprised it even made it past the initial activation.
11 days.

I ordered a Joey 4K from the Dish dealer I ordered my Hopper 3 and eastern arc LMBF Hybrid from. I could have save some money by buying it from Dish but I would have to have a Dish Tech install it. So I paid a little more and I'll install it. I just have to run 2 cables to our rec room for the Joey which is no problem.

I don't know how much easier it can get - I'm certainly not "dissing" my wife, but she's as non-technical as they come and aside from a few bugs that frustrate many of us (and only because the H3 is so new), she has had virtually ZERO problems acclimating to the Hopper/Joey setup.

Me and my household are also on brink of dumping Dish in the near future, but my household's reason is because of two reasons, the reasons are bill keeps getting very high and also reoccurring issues with the Hopper/2 Joeys/Super Joey whole home setup.

It's possible my household will be switching to DirecTV within next few weeks maybe, that is if we get a good deal and pull the trigger after a phone call to DirecTV will be made.

If it does happen, I will post a thread with my farewell to Dish. And then I will become a regular visitor of the DirecTV section from that point forward.

Here is a Quote from the DIRT member that I received this AM, "other than a VIP 211/211k/211z/411 or Wally".
I'm sure that if I went to Direct TV or Comcast it would be the same thing. And there is no way in hell I'm going to Comcast.

Comcast's X1 system is really pretty good. Check it out before you write them off completely.

It is not technical. It is a "business" decision on the part of Dish. Dish will not even activeate other than the one exception ViP model even if the sub pays for and has a retailer do all the work. Dish still says NO.

One reason ViP's or other DVR may be desired by some sub, along with the Hopper, is that it keeps a member of the household OFF their Hopper network without having to have a 2nd or 3rd Hopper with an Isolater. The ViP is PITA teen Timmy's or really old parents or sister or brother living with subs to get back on feet after losing job etc. WHATEVER reason people prefer to have at least ONE ViP DVR. It would be nice if Dish officers would share why they won't allow any other than the 211's on homes with Hopper systems. I really do miss those Charlie Chats. There were ways of getting through and asking a question like that, that Charlie always answered. I appreciated his candor at the time, and could see his view as the man running the business with economic concerns. Now we get NOTHING.

I can second the Comcast X1 system is great. I upgraded my mother from a 2008 model dvr with 160 gig hard drive to the 500gig X1. She loves the voice remote that allows you to go to a channel by saying the name of it. In some ways I like clean X1 interface better than the Hopper3. 6 tuners in the X1 DVR. The remote boxes work a lot like the Joeys do.

Dish has allowed 722 & Hopper equipment on the same account. Back when I was DA/FS, I talked to a tech who was installing 2 HPRSLNG in a guest house on an acct that had three 722s. I told the tech that's not an option. Customer gets on the line and screams do it or I cancel. Got him to Loyalty. 15 mins later I refresh the account and Loyalty escalates to OOP who notates the acct and overrides the system to allow it. Those that high up have the override. Frontline CSRs don't and probably coaches don't either. IIRC, I saw about 5 accts like that.

I yelled and screamed at the DIRT member, a phone customer rep and her manager who all said I can't have a 722K on my account. I threatened cancelling my service. I was given the 1-800 number to call to cancel my service and the phone cs rep said let's start he process. But like I said I really like my Dish Network service. My of my friends have left Comcast for Verizon FIOS But I don't have FIOS in my town yet and won't have it until at least 2018.

Now trying to get the 722K back on the account is pointless since I have already ordered a Joey. But I think it is still a stupid policy by Dish Network. It was a matter of convenience for me since I have a second 1000.2 dish installed. Plus I spent Sunday changing the LNBF, replacing the coax and re-aligning the dish for the eastern arc. And the 722K was on the account and operating for 10 days until it I made the mistake of asking the a DIRT rep to verify my new account charges. But to have the policy in the first place is just insane. If I had Verizon FIOS available I'm 99% sure I wouold have cancelled my Dish account. but since I don't have FIOS available I had to cave to Dish Network's insane policy.

I wish I had Charlie's EMAIL address. i would let him know, civilly, what I think about Dish'es policy on Hoppers and VIP DVR receivers on the same account. BUT as I said earlier I guess I win in the long run since my monthly bill will be $15 less per month without the 722K on the account and with the Joey on the account.

That's a wonderful story and you tell it so well, with such enthusiasm. However the fact is they are not allowed on accounts, it isn't being claimed it isn't possible, and people are not going to get a 722 on the Hopper account. There are exceptions to just about everything, as they say the exception is not the rule.
