Hi,
I was just looking through all the FTA channels and was wondering if anyone has found any really good channels worth watching or channels that they really enjoy?

My favorites:

G10 - RTN, FOX, ABC, MyNet, Retro Jams
IA5 - GNF Movies
IA7 - White Springs
AMC4 - FOX

There are some other foreign ones I like too, but these are my "staple" channels :)

WBLU and KFDF have some shows I enjoy especially on the weekend. Entering the available channels into Titan Tv will tell you what's on. Its time consuming at first but is worth the trouble. Most of what I watch is on 123W. Mad About You, Mission Impossible, Little House on the Prairie, Stargate, Star Trek, Outer Limits, Frasier, South Park, Retro Jams (music videos). There are many religious stations and its interesting to see how different churches and faiths worship. When there's nothing else its fun to see the odd outfits on Fashion Tv. Its not like having cable. With cable you have a ton of channels, rarely something's on you that you really like and a big bill that is always going up. FTA satellite is much the same without the bill and you'll see things odd things that none of your neighbors do.

don't forget WMQF - a fox affiliate... Also, Al Jazerra, Russia Today, and ABC News Now are nice news channels to have... also GNF Movie channel, JSTV, and lots of others are neat to have... and if you speak spanish, there's TONS of stuff to see (especially if you can get Hispasat, that has at least two movie channels that normally do US released movies either in Spanish dubs or in English with Spanish Subtitles (more of the former than the latter though, unfortunately))...

feeds are nice too...

and yes, not having the cable bill helps out... although, initial investment may cost a few bucks if you go with high end equipment...

It's worth it. We used to pay 110.00 a month for digital cable w/high speed internet... now we pay 30.00 a month for dsl and nothing for fta.. original cost was somewhere around 300-500, counting cost of dish, reciever, motor, lnb, and shipping... we've had the equipment over a year as of about a month ago, and it's more than paid for itself when compared to how much cable or dish network would have cost.

If you get locals OTA (or from a DBS dish) from a big urban area like L.A., N.Y., San Francisco, Chicago, etc. then you already have access to most of the English and Spanish language programming (old movies and TV shows, Univision, Telefutura, etc.). If you live in a remote area, then you can get those by FTA satellite.
Most of the unique programming is the free international channels, giving you a glimpse of the cultures of other countries. For example, while there is a lot of publicity given to the Hispanic population, it is not generally known that Persians represent 10% of the population of the Los Angeles area. They have 20 different channels on the FTA satellite at 97 West.

Also, there seems to be many more religious channels than get on the cable and satellite systems, and they consitute a large portion of the FTA satellite channels.

Here's a plug for Ohio News Now. I'm in central Michigan, so the weather report is kinda relevant, and my mom's in Cincinnati, so I'll sometimes catch what's happening down there. Good background noise when I'm working in the basement and not as intense as CNN.
:)

And here is a nod to the educational programming, largely 79W - in the last few weeks I have been learning about the history of the Great Plains, why Saturn's moon Titan may be slowly spinning towards its planet while our moon is slowly spinning away from earth, how cladistics fits in with taxonomy, proteinomics, the periodic table of the elements, and on and on. Plus the off-air remarks by presenters during feeds which can be hilarious, IMUS news, transmissions direct from Europe on Hispasat 30W, I always wondered what Catalan sounded like as a language...

FTA is a great way to add more channels to your TV , I live in Chicago area so we have plenty of diversity OTA , I think we have 3 PBS channels OTA .

Now if you live out in the boonies and have poor or no reception of certain networks , FTA will add a significant amount of channels and networks , Fox , ABC, NBC , a few independents , + Sports Feeds , and pretty neat ethnic programming some of which are broadcast in English.

I've had my FTA setup for a little over a year and I'm very happy with it , my Mom likes it too.

Lot's of good channels to watch. But if you're looking for Lifetime or HBO. or any other mainstream subscription channel, FTA probably isn't for you? Most of what I watch has already been posted, but I prefer the backhauls of Hockey games. Watched 2 last night in HD.

Retro jams is a hell of a good channel. It's more like the old MTV with repeats of the same song OVER and OVER. Although, it's still fun to watch.

2nd off all, the Equity channels are good cause of all the programming you would least expect, especially during heavy sporting weekends. Just wait til baseball starts.

Speaking of sports, all I can say in this forum, is that there is a LOT out there. Just scan often, you never know what you will find.

The only 24 hour unencrypted sports channel is Abu Dhabi Sports. Techno935 is referring to temporary feeds from sports events locations to affiliates. You have to "scan" to find those.
