GEOSATpro HDVR3500 - New DVBS2 STB - Photos and Initial Testing

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but is there a way to stream tuned audio services from the HDVR3500 to my ipod touch internet device over my home network.

A pouplar internet mobile audio app has various pro sport league broadcasts... on their premium service (not their free part of the service).

Considering my local AM station that carries Westwood one NFL football goes into the toilet at night - has to lower the transmit power at sunset that makes reception difficult and horrible -- I was hoping that I could tune the satellite feed with the HDVR3500 and be able to IP stream it over my wireless home network and use my ipod touch or android tablet to receive the local IP audio stream so I can listen over home wifi while in my backyard or front yard relaxing.
Not stupid at all. Only stupid are the questions we did not ask.
We have tested streaming out and it works on current model.
The receiver has to be on the same network as your cell phone.
Please download Vivant Remote app in the Apple Store or in Google Play.
You will be able to select the channel and push AV out.
Requirement is basically unrestricted network setup.
Unfortunately, due to security setups and all sorts of ports blocked, App will not work sometimes.
Please let me know how it went. We do not promote this publicly, since this was not a priority feature.

I have the app installed on my iPhone 4S, and it found the receiver, but needs a password. Is there a default password for the receiver? I know I haven't created one...

I just had an idea... how difficult would it be to create an app for the iPad that could edit the satellites, transponders, and channels on the HDVR3500? I was thinking that since it is possible to access the receiver with the Vivant Remote app, it may be possible to create an editor as well... unfortunately I don't know how to program... :(

The vivant remote app for ios works for controlling the satellite box but there are no remote streaming options with it. What am I missing?
Please hold your finger on channel and select Push AV - if your network is simple and does not block av ports, you should see and hear the channel streaming to iOS.

I don't see a Vivant remote app in Google Play store, is it under a different name?
I do not find it either. I have downloaded it before, but for some reason not finding it. Please understand, since the app did not perform to our expectation, we have discontinued it.

Just to report that if you telnet to this box (user:root passwrd: nothing just hit enter) and type this command: cat /proc/hisi/msp/tuner you can see signal strength, quality, BER, FEC, frequency, DVB vs DVB-s2. Very nice! A way to look at signal strength if your wireless hits where your dish is.

Here is a paste of what is shown
---------Hisilicon TUNER Info---------
Port: LockStat I2CChannel Frequency(KHz) SymbRate QamMode DemodType TunerType
0: locked 1 1059000 14029000 QPSK hi3136i AV2011

BER:0.0*(E-0), SNR:210, SignalStrength:2033

FEC type DVBs, FEC rate:3/4

So I have no idea what the SNR and signal strength integers mean but they go up for stronger and down for weaker so to peak your dish just get that SNR number as high as possible.

Here is a command that will continually query that file ever second: watch -n 1 "cat /proc/hisi/msp/tuner" (you need the quotes).

Just posting to help others.

SNR means Signal To Noise Ratio. In other words, quality.

Correct! Sorry I meant I did not know what the integer meant... SNR: 210 (what does 210 mean is it DB or DBm or etc..) but yes Its signal to noise ratio just dont know what measurement the driver is using. Doesnt matter to me just know that higher is better and weaker SNR the value gets lower. Great remote way to check the signal as you tune or if you use these at a head end.

Here is another file in that same location where when you cat it you can see everything about the video stream you have tuned in. This is PBS on 103West. Notice the bitrate is even shown, mpeg2, 1920x1080 etc.

I found the Vivant Remote app in IOS store, installed it, used the password given in this thread, and was able to change channels with the app. When I then pushed and did "Push AV", all I got was a black screen on my ipod touch while the channel was playing fine on my tv.

What port do I need to unblock to make the Push AV work (or where in the settings screens do I need to look to find the port number for my setup that needs to be unblocked?)

Thanks.

I don't mind asking for help! If anyone is proficient in using wireshark or another network analysis tool, please see what ports are used?

Same goes for sharing to OSX/MacOS - if you guys see what causes share to not be visible to macs let us know.

I did wireshark it earlier this week. The geosat receiver connects back TO the vivant app when you hit stream av. Then the next thing you get in the wireshark is port not available and the tcp connection is reset by the sat box. Either the sat box is connecting back to the vivant remote app on the wrong port or the vivant remote app is not listening on the right port. Its not a blocked port issue. One or the other is just using the wrong port. Its also possible that the apples IOS is blocking the connection to the vivant app. I saved the pcap files from wireshark.

I also did wiresharks while changing channels. I found where the vivant remote app querying some xml files and was able to grab them with my computer in the same way. It was mostly and xml file of dnla service definitions. When I changed channels the packets were filled with gibberish almost like there was some form of encryption. It would be awesome to get the api's (info on the commands sent to the receiver to change the channel) and to start the av stream. Maybe we could piece something working together.

Just sharing an external hard drive that I found that works great with the HDVR3500. It a Seagate 1TB Backup Plus Slim... less than $60

I remember reading of the ability of using a MicroHD remote with the 3500, something to do with Sling, I believe. Is there a firmware or whatever to allow the Micro's remote to work with the 3500 under normal conditions?

Many of the Micro's remote keys already work on the 3500 right out of the box, but at the moment I have neither the time or ambition to make it work completely myself. I ask, because the Ok key on my remote is messing up horribly, and it isn't dirty contact pads inside. It's a very cheaply made remote inside and coupled with the problem I've had right from day one of how mine chews through batteries within a week or so, I would rather use a different remote altogether than buying a new replacement, if they're available even.
