I never liked Steinbrenner. I always figured that if you spent more money on players than anyone else did, then you would win. But Gene Autry and Dan Snyder have shown otherwise.
There are as many Yankees fan haters as Yankee fans, yes even in New York, but those who did not care about the Yankees did admired certain aspects of the team and it’s organization; The New York Yankees with its colorful history always provided the catalyst for Baseball’s excitement than any other team in history.
One of the reasons that both the Giants and the Dodgers pull out of New York City was another testament to the Yankees image and status in the game.

RIP, George. I have had the pleasure of meeting him and he was a very down to earth person who would take care of his family and friends in anyway possible.
I might be showing my age, but I was always happy when the Yankees played the Dodgers in the World Series. It was what was called the “Subway Series” for the fans.
Man, the only thing I always hated was that I had to wear a hot three piece suit to the series game. My father will not allow me to wear jeans. :tux:
RIP George.... you will be missed. Controversial character only because of extreme desire to win. Always put his money back into the team and expected 100% effort all the time. Many did not like his approach but people who live in NY appreciated the fact that he never thought twice about putting $$$ into the NY Yankees. Even in the 80s when the Yankees did not win anything, he was putting $$ money into the team.
R.I.P. to Mr. Steinbrenner. I'm more of a casual fan, but if there's any team I'll watch it is the Yankees. If anybody gets the YES Network, they're currently running a tribute to "The Boss". The MLB Network is as well. I enjoyed Larry David's impersonation of him on "Seinfeld".
I'll bet George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin are going at it right now! The man sure loved the Yankees and wasn't afraid to voice his pleasure and displeasure. R.I.P.

Exactly what I was thinking - Reunited with Billy once again. I wonder if he's buying his way into heaven.
