I talked to a CSR today and the said I could get a GenieGo for 1/2 price off the $99 asking price. Is it worth the price, what are the pros and cons.
I know they just released the android app the other day. That is why I am looking at the GenieGo:eek:

The geniego was previously known as nomad. Try doing some searching on that to see if you think you want it. Some people would never use it but 50bucks is a good deal from a csr.

Good for in-home streaming to ipad, iphone, now android. Also nice to prepare and download shows to watch away from home and not use your bandwith, but it takes a while to prepare a download, about an hour for an hour show.

Also, they say out of home streaming, similiar to a sling box, is coming in the future, but we'll see...

Let me know when DTV gets the licensing down so I can actually have remote access to my dvr and the programming I already pay them for. Let me worry about how much bandwidth I'm using. DTV has never been anywhere near the frontline when it comes to streaming even within your own home network to anything other than their own boxes.

And there is no app for the ipad yet....

That is ridiculous, how long has the GenieGo (Nomad) been out now? I see they even removed the "coming soon" for an iPad app, and now don't even mention. Does anyone know what the hold up is?

Follow up question..
I know that by purchasing the GenieGo it does not extend your service agreement, but would that make it a piece of owned equipment or is it still a lease?
Thanks

So true!

Oh, and I know a lot of people run the GenieGo App for the iphone on their Ipad.
Edit: Just checked the GenieGo page on Directv.com and if you click the link for iphone/ipod app, it shows the Ipad as compatible...

The question then becomes how good do you think something designed for the iPhone is going to look on an iPad.

Video looks pretty good on the ipad, the interface (menus) needs improvement, but the video looks fine. It uses the Apple native player, just like most apps.
