I am the beginner of FTA, and just purchased the whole set of the FTA equipment from Ebay, include Fortec Dish, receiver, Stab HH90 motor.
My target satellite is Galaxy 3C and Galaxy 13, the chinese channel is very attractive, but I am not lucky, so far, I can not get any channel.
I know a lot of people can get the signal from Galaxy 3C (with CCTV-4), but very few people post their experience about how to point and search the Galaxy 13, this satellite seems has mor FTA chinese channel. Please share your experience here.
Thank, my location is close to New York City.

I can get G3 with CCTV on it with a signal of 90 (I use G3 for NoDakota Hockey) :)

G13 I havent motored around lately, but there are a bunch of channels in Chinese on 11720 H 26800. Signal quality around 45-50 on that one :)

By checking a site, its about a 19 degree elevation angle to pick this up from NYC

Give us your zip and we can give you a "FEW" angles to get started.

Thank for your verification, I am kind of frustrate to continue my search of those satellite, I was able to move the motor, but still can not get ANY channel even after adjust the angle following yours advice, I think this work may need some patient and lucky, please share your experience about how to search the satellite using the motorized dish, some tips or tricks.
Thanks in advance.

program in the Transponder info
go to the install screen and down to 1.2 for motor
motor east until the unit shows a quality signal

If your motor is set up right it should work :)

Its a good idea to try to find the satellites without the motor to start, the motor can be added later, I know this is not what you want to hear but sometimes it helps to have some satellites and channels already stored in receiver, don't give up!

I'm a beginner too. I can get CCTV4 from Galaxy 3C and NTD from Intelsat Americas 5 at 97.0°W. I don't have a motor but I have two dishes. NTD doesn't have much on and I tried to point my dish G13. The highest signal I can get was 55 for G13. But at 55 I can't get any channel. Any suggestions, guys? PSB and carload were very helpful for me when I asked question last time. Thanks again, guys.

What size dish do you have? I guess you have tried to fine tune your LNB by rotating it clockwise and anti-clockwise to see if you can squeeze some more signal quality from you antenna, also try moving the LNB closer and further away from the dish all the time watching the quality level on the TV.

Thanks, PSB. But I don't even know what size of my dishes are. It's bigger than the regular directtv and dish network's small dish. What's a LNB? Sorry for my ignorance.

We all have to start someplace and we are glad to help here no matter what level of the hobby you are at : ) The LNB is the small part on the front of the dish where the cable hooks up to. The reason I asked about the dish size is usually the bigger the dish the more signal it will collect. There cant be any trees or anything in front of the dish or you will get some signal but not as much as you should be getting, if you think there maybe something in your line of sight to the satellite try moving the dish to another location!

Thanks, PSB. I've never tried to adjust LNB. It's too cold here in Boston. When it's getting warmer, I'll give it a try. I did see some trees in front but don't know for sure if they have any effect.

finally receive the signal from G3C without motor

I spend about 2 hours to manual search the G3C, finally, I received the signal, but first, I removed the motor, I guess it is quite hard to install the motor to point to the true south, it is kind of hard to manually search the signal after installed the motor, if any good suggestion, I will like to try it later.
Another question, I will like to open a new thread, is about how to point to two bird using one dish (may need one more LNB).

Actually, its not that hard to install a motor to the dish and point it to the right position, the only disadvantage is, difference model of H-H motor has the difference calcalation on the elevation.

There is no mystery for two or more birds in one dish, it also depending the dish size and shape, with proper line up the LNBFs, on a one metre dish can get as many as 6 satellites come in. This is what make this FTA system the fun to play.
