FTC Sues Dish for Do Not Call Violations

If they did it hope they pay for it, otherwise what good is the no call list. I will caution, other suits by the FCC with other companies found nowhere near the amount of calls alleged were made to people who had signed up for no call. They either did it after the fact, or were customers of the company who owed money. But no doubt there will be calls made that should not have been.

I don't know if I've gotten "Rachel", but it's pretty much whenever I get a message on the answering machine or call and the robot says "cardholder services" I immediately delete or hang up. It must happen at least once or twice a month. I got smart and looked up the * code to have my phone company block the last number that called me once I started to noticed that some of these telemarketing calls kept repeating the same number. That stopped them from making it to me at all pretty quick.
I currently have 75 numbers of telemarketers and scam artists ("it's your last chance to consolidate your credit cards ...) blocked. I wish the FTC was as proactive about putting these people out of business as they seem to be about Dish. Every time I get an unknown call I google the number and usually end on 800notes.com looking at dozens or hundreds of complaints from others about that number. I used to fill out a complaint form with the FTC but that's just an exercise in paperwork as far as I can see. Lots of these robocallers have multiple numbers to call from but I've got lots of room left in my blocked calls list.

Dish seems to get in trouble every week.It does seem kind of sad they are getting slapped when all these other outfits call at will and nearly laugh when you say I'm on the do not call list.Cardholder,lower your interest,home security,windows,timeshares,cruises.And the absolute worst of all the political survey and vote for me calls.Those need to be outlawed!
I think this is more of a case of the government showing they can do something about the do not call list with a legitimate company.

I deal with the telemarketers by telling them I am interested and that I need a second to go get my credit card. Then I put the phone down and don't return until I hear that phone noise that indicates there is no other party present on the line. I've had some of them fools wait 20+ minutes before they give up.
Another popular thing to do is to ask them for their home phone number and arrange to call them back around dinner time. When they find that to be unacceptable, I tear them apart about how they are hypocrits for doing it to me.

Whats sad about this is that a majority of these calls from DISH Network are NOT from DISH Network. Instead they are calls from Telemarketers who were hired by independent retailers who call and pretend they are DISH Network. Many of them even use caller ID spoofing.
Here in Connecticut I know a retailer who was terminated by DISH yet still sells DISH by getting his equipment from another retailer. The word is he is selling more DISH now then he was when he was a real DISH retailer. And since he is no longer a real DISH retailer he is no longer bound by DISH's rules on what he can and can not do. The sad part is I know DISH knows whos selling him equipment and that guy who that is selling him the equipment will soon get shut down... but the other former retailer will just find someone else to sell equipment to him so he can keep operating illegally.
Another sad part about this is its happening on the DIRECTV side of thing too. And just like DISH, DIRECTV corporate has nothing to do with the illegal calls and sales tactics being used by some of these guys.
The real question is how do you stop it? (Or better yet... can you stop it?!)

They could stop it by eliminating retailers altogether & doing everything in house. Collectively retailers generate many new subs for dish & they know it. Dish & retailers are in a marriage made on a bed of thorns.

Maybe they are making enough money to be able to afford to pay the penalties to make it worth their while.
