I found my original DVR in a closet; its a 501; has the original smart card inside; plus a UHF remote. I probably have the manual; just need to look. This receiver worked great. Great DVR without the DVR-fee. Perfect for SD tv.

Note about the smart card: the card is a "blue card." You will need to have E* exchange it for a yellow one when you activate the receiver. If you are current customer, that is free. If you are a new sub, it could cost $50. My price is based on the assumption that you are an existing customer in good standing.
