Does the preview extend to those who have only the Family package? It seems to me in the past the lowest/lower packages were excluded from such previews though I don't recall for sure.

I'm honestly not sure if they include Family pack, but they do include Select and above.

If you get a chance to try tuning it in let us know for future reference

I do know that the free previews do not include the on-demand services.

I just checked, and yes, it does include Family. I can see both HBO and Cinemax, all channels.

Well Enjoy. Just keep in mind that programming like the Amy Schemer special doesn't fit too well with the mission of the Family Package
