Fox Business Channel!

CNBC HD wide screen on Dish Network looks even better with it's side, top and bottom bars, FYI.

Oh, we get CNBC HD and FBN HD on DirecTV. Were you thinking we didn't get CNBC HD?

Incidentally, CNBC is not in true HD... read this from Wikipedia...

"At an upfront analyst meeting held in New York, NBC Universal announced that it would be launching CNBC in high definition (or CNBC HD+). It is expected to be an up-convert of the SD signal to HD. Unlike other HD channels, CNBC will not be putting together an additional HD feed of the channel or purchasing additional HD hardware and the associated items required to create the HD content. It was initially launched on October 10, 2007 on DirecTV, to be followed by other carriers."

Wow, I cannot believe Dish still doesn't have FBN. I had it day one with BHN in standard def and have since ditched Dish Network and subscribed to DirecTV. So as we speak I am watching Fox Business Network in HD on DirecTV. It looks so sexy with the side bar and wide screen in HD. I can't wait for Fox News in HD to come to DirecTV. They say another 50 or so channels are coming to DirecTV in the fall, including Fox News HD, when the new sat is operational.

Dish is working perfectly here except for lack of FBN.

DirecTV keeps sending a "free everything" brochure which is tempting now that Murdoch owns DirecTV... Charlie Egan is not a bad CEO. Murdoch is better.

Don't want to switch given our setup. If I were starting from scratch, I'd now purchase DirecTV. But it took the wifee a long time to master our system. She's still getting the hang of the name based timer options... which are quite powerfull.

Charlie has to compete... so at some point he will pick up FBN. I'm not holding my breath.

If I thought I'd get a significant saving for an equivalent setup, I'd switch anyway. My bill is averaging $140 a month... which is pretty much an everything setup on two receivers, with HD and a couple of PPV's per month. I think I could beat that on DirecTv... its hard to figure as all the "free" for new subscribers don't include all the stuff I've got.

I own all my equipment... no contracts... so I could switch with ease.

msnbc used to be okay, then 5 years ago they went hard left, and now i just take a quick look occasionally to see if they're kow-towing on mao's grave yet.

Cnbc was a great business channel, but--two years ago they started slanting left, and they're still doing it. From daily watching i'm down to looking in every 2 or 3 weeks.

So i'm down to bloomberg, and what does bloomberg himself do? He becomes an independent, switching from republican. I wonder if george soros, foreign born liberal/radical/leftist who wants to be the power behind the throne, has bought part (or already owned part) of bloomberg tv? Next thing i know, i'll be down to reading the wall street journal in the crapper...

I joined DirecTV in early May. I paid $300 for equipment. $100 for the first HD-DVR and $200 for the second. You pay that upfront. The minute my installer left, I looked at my first month's bill online. It was a little higher than expected, but the confusion was cleared up when I called. They advised me the $18 credit I was to receive begins in month two. You also have to fill out a quick form online in order to get it.

So nothing was really free if you want HD DVRs. Their free offer was for either the HD receiver, or a DVR, not the HD DVR.

Of course it is two months later so they may have a special deal going.

I'll just say that I am way happier than I was when I subscribed to Dish last year. Thankfully I didn't sign a contract with Dish, because I only lasted about 10 months.

Wikipedia is wrong. The signal is 1080i. The "camera" that "photographs" the talking heads is SD. The rest of the frame, including the really great side bar, top bar and bottom bar is as HD as you can get.

I have no idea what you get.

The CNBC HD studio cameras are not HD, like you are admitting. So the ticker and logo are HD, but the actual studio stuff is SD upconverted simulcast. How is Wiki wrong? You said yourself that the "photographs" of the talking heads are SD... that is crappy and undesirable.

Fox Business is shot in HD and the SD version is a downconvert of the nice sexy HD footage. Which is more desirable, true HD or an SD upconvert? Fox Business is the only business channel in true HD, like they proudly proclaim on the air. But you wouldn't know that with Dish Network, since you only get one of these two business channels. We at DirecTV enjoy both.

It is surprising when successful business owners are liberals because democrats are notoriously in favor of unions, which hurt business, in favor of higher taxes for business, which hurt business, in favor of environmental restrictions, which hurt business, tighter restrictions on daily operations, free trade with the right countries, etc. Of course it surprises me that a business owner would be in bed with a party that puts more restrictions on it and taxes it higher. The answer to this though, in most cases, is that the liberal business owner gets something out of the deal. For example, a medical mal-practice attorney isn't going to like how republicans put a cap on mal-practice lawsuits, because they make less money. If they are limited to suing for $250K under a Republican backed law, and they would otherwise sue for $1M under democrats, obviously the difference in what they will make, even with the higher taxes brought on by the dems, outweighs the Republican way. So, I am of the opinion that there is usually an underlying reason for the rich businessperson to be a liberal. My first thought when finding out Charlie is a liberal is why??? Something is benefiting him to be backing Hillary.

I am a business owner, and frankly I couldn't get by without the tax breaks that I get that were brought on by Republicans. I often work 12-16 hour days between offsite and onsite and billable and non-billable hours, even on weekends. I have a technology company and must stay on top of new computer technologies in order for my business to have an edge. When it comes to tax time, I take advantage of every legitimate business break I get and it helps me keep some money in my pocket, as well as grow my business (which incidentally helps the economy).

Last spring, I had a major surgery and was told that I would probably be out of work for 3 months. Three weeks after the surgery, I was just itching to get back to work. Sure, I still hurt but I wanted to work, so I went back to work. This is me, the Republican (actually I am more libertarian , but you probably don't care). The socialist democratic liberal, working for the US Postal service for example, in his/her union, would have milked that surgery and recovery for all its worth and not gone back to work for three months or longer. Even if their body was OK with going back to work, they'd sit home and ride the couch for as long as they could. They would have been a drain on the employer and taxpayers through disability pay. Liberals have an entitlist mentality. They think the country owes them the comforts of a good life, TV and radio (subsidized PBS and NPR), health care, food, clothing, subsidized busing that loses money left and right in rural areas, subsidized daycare, etc. Nevermind hard work! I work hard and I am rewarded for it financially and in other ways. Liberals want what I have, and believe since I have it they should too. But they don't want to work for it! I know this, as I have family members with this mentality. They don't want to work and they want to drain the richer family members who work hard. Sounds a lot like this country, I know. We are becoming more and more socialist all the time. Now the liberals want national healthcare. Yeah, that will go over real well, like it is in England right now. We need to stop feeling entitled like the country owes us something and go out and earn it if we want it. Shame on all the liberals. They don't like Fox News because it is a reality check. Fox Business Network is against new taxes and business restrictions, sure, it isn't good for any business. The democrats will have you believe hogwash like unions are good for the employee. What about individuality? What about the stand out employee who busts his but to get ahead. Meanwhile you've got Joe Lazy standing next to him, in the same position, never going above and beyond or stepping outside his "job description," and he earns the same paycheck because of unions. So the hard worker sees that he won't get ahead no matter how hard he works, and he becomes lazy like Joe Lazy. Two socialists standing side by side, getting unfair raises, negotiated together, with nobody looking at their work performance as an individual. How sad. How very sad what this country is becoming with these liberals feeling like we owe them something.

Charlie- It's time to add Fox Business and kick yourself in the ass for being a liberal.

Takers vs Makers. Those that depend directly or indirectly on Government are the base of the Dems.

Rationalization by otherwise perfectly good people... is unlimited.

Unfortunately... as government grows... more takers.

That is where we are.

Isn't Capitalism GREAT? we all have the freedom to choose, DirectTV or Dish Network, or your local Cable Company.
Well, at least its great for now, Until the "Fairness DOCTRINE" get's pushed through.

Loss of the "Fairness Doctrine" is a real concern. Certainly the Dems long for the day when they could control the media.

Technology drove the loss of this "doctrine". Once the major networks had competition, balance that reflected what Americans thought was the result.

For the foreseeable future... there is no way we are going back to what I grew up with. I did my bit to contribute to the technology... which is also, as it turns out, a two edge sword. But net... (so to speak).... a good thing.
