Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

Just curious, doesn't Tyler have a DMA? Seems like you're a lot closer to Tyler than DFW. SatGuys doesn't have the DMA's listed anymore or I'd look for myself.

Yes, Tyler has a DMA and I am geographically much closer, but I am still in the DFW DMA. DISH knows this and serves me DFW locals (when they aren't in dispute). Atop my 50' tower, I actually have 2 antennae with one pointing East and one pointing North. When the antennae weren't being torn apart by trees, I was receiving OTA locals from both DMAs. If given the choice, I prefer DFW locals as they're just a little more professional commercials. I actually know some of the local news reporters for the Tyler locals, and that's just kind of weird seeing them on TV.

Same result here. Dish chat and phone support said my address wasn't eligible for an OTA install. I e-mailed ceo@dishnetwork.com (as suggested earlier in this thread) and explained that I have successfully picked up the local stations at my house 28 miles away and asked for an override. Tech came out and had to use the stronger attic/outdoor antenna (instead of the flat panel indoor antenna) but I could get all the local stations including Fox. He did say that his colleagues have been driving around the area testing reception, which is interesting. Would be curious how they test it from the trucks (if that's accurate). I will be mounting the antenna in the attic myself but I have the OTA adapter and antenna so I'm happy about that!

Kevin, how the heck did you get that to happen?! I emailed the same place as told to here, and I received absolutely no response. Nada. Meanwhile, as support here suggested, I tried to chat with Dish online yesterday, and was immediately told that I have to call someone at phone support, which I did first and got nowhere.

I think Dish is making a strategic error here. I think more people are going to cancel than they believe. I’ve had people in my profession break contracts to go streaming or Direct. I tell them I can’t guarantee disputes won’t happen on those platforms and caution against a new contract with direct because disputes have picked up there and I expect more in the future. They don’t care, they’re fed up. Too many disputes too soon. Lots of angry sports fans and for good or ill they’re making decisions on emotions.

I think its a long term survival move...they need to get costs down....sports fans are getting older ...younger generation isn't as connected to tv as us old fogies are...they tend to stream

isn't there a pending issue with ESPN and Directv? Jumping there does not seem prudent....sitting back a bit seems more prudent...if DISH and FOX can't find common ground this week and baseball playoffs are impacted, then that's a huge deal, and tells us where this is going. Hockey and basketball are early season, so let that settle some. If this drags into end of October this is going to be a big deal.

ABC/ESPN/Disney and AT&T signed a new agreement so nothing until next renewal.

I agree, just think of the impact it will have on beer sales.

And pizza....

That’s because the Seattle FOX station isn’t owned and operated by FOX. I should have included that. FOX on demand is shut down for everyone so that the 17 cities that FOX owns the stations DISH subs can’t use it to watch FOX programming.

WJBK is one of the Faux O&O that has been removed from Dish.

Hey Faux, I get it OTA and I double dog dare you to shut off that signal! I'm sure they would if they could, but they can't without FCC repercussions, so ha ha ha!

I can also get WJBK as well with my roof top OTA, comes in handy for sure!

Maybe I got my e-mail in before they got swamped (sent it Thursday night)? Or used the magic combination of words? I did use a lot of their Dish Promise language in hopes of gaining favor ("Fox did this" and some other Fox-blaming, whether I believe it or not haha)
