Found a dish, need some opinions.

There's a few places were the paint has chipped off and it has begun to rust (which is why I gotta find a compatible paint for it), so it's gotta be steel. Steel dishes will work fine for KU reception, as long as it's not warped too bad, right?

A closer look at picture #7 indicates it's not FRP. I thought I saw glass fiber strands when I first looked at it.

A magnet will tell you if it's steel. Lack of corrosion would indicate nonferrous metal like aluminum.

i suspect it will just slide in, but thats just it. until you try we can only guess. i agree it would be idiotic but take a look at that scaler its bolted onto the buttonhook arm. to replace the scaler you would have to weld or adapt another to it. most dishers are easier than this and just bolt on at the scaler.

It figures I'd find an oddball dish...

I'm hoping it can be slid into place, if not I'll just go ahead and cut the damn thing out. I don't want to disconnect the scaler from the buttonhook arm, because I know it's been aimed accurately.

I think you will get it to work. with a bent or damaged dish you will only know when you get it home. string each petal and see how the shape is. from what i've seen its not to bad. mine looks like the surface of the moon with all the hail dings i have in it lol.... but if you don't get it to get the ku reception you would like it would still make one heck of a c band only dish. still lots of stuff up there to point a stationary (or motorized) dish at

I'm hoping it will be fine. The bend doesn't look that bad, and I think it can be brought back to the original shape or at least very close to it. I would think a bunch of tiny dings in a dish from hail would cause more problems, then one bend?

I can always get a smaller dish for KU reception, but if I can do both with one dish, it'd be so much easier.

it is different, with it on the lyngsat sit you can pick up the videocipher & digicipher signals. you can also subscribe to tv channels much like dtv or dish but i think the Picture Quality is better due to the compression those services have to use to put up so many different channels. the subscriptions are usually cheaper. i was thinking this was the predecesor to dtv & dish

From what I read on wikipedia, 4DTV is a dying technology, and will be just about extinct in a few years? What equipment would I need to receive 4dtv in addition to the other stuff out there on C and KU bands?

Edit: BTW, I have a uniden UST-4400 that says it decodes Digichipher II Plus signals. I'm not sure if it's analog and digital or just analog though. Would that be a 4DTV box?

Are you sure the Uniden says DIGICIPHER? It is probably Videocipher II+, which is analog. 4DTV is digital, and is based on Digicipher II, which is Motorola's (previously General Instrument's) proprietary technology.

You are correct. I knew it said something cipher.

I went dish hunting today, and found a bunch of 6 foot mesh dishes, but no solid dishes like the one I found. Well I take that back, I found one solid dish, but it was only a half of one, and it was in the ground painted with flowers. I almost cried.

Dish abuse needs to be illegal dammit. The dish I'm getting was going to be used as a swimming pool. Why would anyone want to do that.

That's one huge birdbath. I've so far found three solid 10 foot dishes that have been put to illegitimate uses. One is buried and has flowers painted on one half, one is being used as a giant billboard advertising the right to vote, and the last is a giant yellow smiley face in someones front yard. Another one was replaced by a wildblue satellite internet dish and is somewhere in a scrap yard.

I was thinking about it last night, and after a lot of thought, I decided the dish just isn't worth the trouble. I'm gonna keep a look out for a decent dish for my C-band reception, but in the meantime, I think I'm gonna go with a package deal from sadoun for KU band. I'll eventually get into C-band, but right now I just don't want to deal with a 10 foot dish.
