Upgrade 721 to 522/625 or 612?

As Dish Network has informed me that I must upgrade from ny 721, I am considering upgrading to an HD DVR (such as the 612) since I will probably (finally) make the plunge into HD sometime next year.

In my just ended call with Dish, I was told that I could get a replacement standard def DVR (no model mentioned, expect a 522 or 625) for free with no commitment. Alternately, I could upgrade to the HD DVR 612 for $100 and a new 24 month commitment. I was also told that I would be charged the $7/mo. HD access fee if I did not get an HD programming package when I ordered the 612.

Does the HD access fee for the 612 sound correct, or can I make an argument to them to drop the HD access fee? Also, is this $100 fee for the 612 a great deal I should jump on, or should I just take the free 522/625 now and pay for an HD DVR when I am ready for HD programming?

Thanks for the help.

All ViP receivers have the $7.00 HD access fee if you don't subscribe to an HD package. For $3.00, you can subscribe to HD Essentials.

I would just take the free one now. Who knows, but you might want something better/newer than the 612 when the time comes to upgrade.

You could likely get that ViP612 for $50 plus 2 years, if you have a good history and subscribe to an HD package.

Unless you have only one TV, I would get a 622 instead of a 612. 612 gets software updates later, it is sort of an orphan child.

I opted for a 522 and it is very nice, I consider it to be better than the 721.

I also agree that you should wait. The upgrade options they are offering for the 721 replacement program are identical to what you would get if you did not have a 721, so you should be able to get a similar deal later.

The only reason to get the 622 or 612 HD receiver now, is if you want to avoid the trouble involved with two receiver replacements.

Hooked up VIP622 to new TV via HDMI, but have no audio

After morning uplinks.. finding satellites... stuck?
