I'm guessing no since you/we have no control over it. I'm not fond of it but it is what they are doing. Sometimes it is OK, I regularly get a wifi connection in a bar or restaurant from xfinitywifi, but occasionally I see that connection but get no data.

Not going to pay for a VPN just so I can feel safe about Comcast socializing my gateway. I don't have Comcast at home, but we use it at work- and our business gateway has no wifi capabilities which I am grateful for.
Nah, I assume there is no privacy online. I don't care. I don't do financial stuff 'in the wild'.
I'm betting they can identify whether the traffic was coming from the subscriber's LAN or the guest Wi-fi. Surely they must be operating in decidedly different subnets.
Yeah, it’s completely separate so the XfinityWifi segment pushes you into a captive portal to authenticate.
Yes, absolutely. They can also apply QOS, so your traffic (or theirs) is prioritized or at least meets some specific level of service.
From what I understand this xFi advantage for $15 is a test in select areas, Central market, but not even all these areas. I can get it where I am in Lansing, my friend can't get it 75 miles west in Muskegon, simply not offered.
I'm paying $80 for 75MB with unlimited through their business service. This would give me an option to get 250MB service for the same price range. I'm in contract on the business side for another year, so I'm hoping the test is successful and they offer this price range for this service long term. The idea of paying $50 extra just for unlimited was a non starter for me, so I ended up paying about $20 more to move to the business service, and my speed dropped from 150mb to 75mb, but it hasn't impacted us at all.
We could avoid unlimited if we throttle the kids TVs and devices, or if the kids move out eventually (my oldest is 18, so I'm just kidding here)

It can be used as a router, 4 LAN and 2 Phone, but mine is set up for only one of the LAN ports to be functional that you connect to a router. They gave me an Actiontec C3000A for the modem. It's OK. I have others that'll work as long as they can login using PPPoE with Tagged VLAN.
They did put a box on the house where the line off the pole joins with the one that runs into the house. The Tech loved the conduit that I have that runs down the core of the house and we ran the fiber in a fraction of the time he thought it would take. Got it up and running in less than an hour. The first speed test was 946/924.
OH, when I called to cancel Comcast, the "Retention Rep" asked me if there was anything she could do to keep me? I said not unless you can give me Gigabit Fiber @ $65 a month "Price for Life". She said "I'll get that cancelation goin' for you right away!" The confirmation eMail came before I hung up.

Nice, that’s a CL model only. Just because I’m a nerd have tried to log into the 716? The default full admin is support/support. Just wondering if CL changes that.
I wanted to get into it also, but haven't had any luck. The installer was kinda keeping things out of my view and took the box it came in that had optional mounting accessories in it that I would like.
I went looking around and Calix seems like a pretty cool manufacturer. I am having Christmas pangs. Their Mesh gear is very intuitive and not sure if it's available yet, but they premiered 802.11ax gear that also covers other protocols.

That's a good deal on the $15 xFi Advantage Gateway to avoid a data cap. But I thought if you got the gigabit speed tier from Comcast that it didn't have a data cap anyhow (only the speed tiers under it do)? I know that's the case with AT&T Fiber. Maybe Comcast only does that in markets where they're competing against them?
My ONT is in my closet, it doesn’t hang on the side of the house.
In my installation fiber runs into the attic down a wall into a closet. Goes into the ONT and then an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the Gateway.

FTTH is sweet isn’t it. I get 940/940 from my electric co-op’s fiber service. Can’t be beat. I went to this from 4/256k DSL, so quite a jump. I am continuously amazed at the speed.
