Flex Pack & Channel Packs Coming 8/4

My complaint is just the opposite of yours. I love all the sport channels (ESPN being one) but no children here so have no need for the Disney channels. Strange coupling of kids channels with (primarily) mens channels. (I suspect that there many women who like the sports channels too though)

From the link in Tampa's post:

"Available for new and existing DISH customers"

"Customers who choose not to add any channel packs can receive the Flex Pack core programming for $29.99."

Have any existing customers tested this yet? I am interested in switching to Flex Pack without any add-ons if it is really only $29.99 per month. I currently have Welcome Pack.

I do not understand why Randall W. "Liked" the following responses to my earlier post:

If you have e bill and auto pay and are willing to go with a two year commitment that will lock your core programming price at $29.99 , you can get the deal.

That is real. You must do what a new subscriber does and sign a new two year contract it will guarantee the $5 discount for two years and a price freeze also.

In a private conversation, Laila S. from DIRT is telling me that I cannot get the deal on Flex Pack because I am switching from Welcome Pack, which is exactly what I said I was going to do in my post above. So why is Randall W. (the DIRT member who posted the details of the deal in the other thread) implying in the public forum that I can get the Flex Pack deal, while Laila S. is telling me in private that the deal is not available? :rolleyes

Is there something that I am missing?
Is it time to play DIRT roulette?

I hope it isn't DIRT roulette and more a misunderstanding or being so new the details are not all known? You would be spending more with the Flex Pack, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to get it. Could it be something else - you need the new card for the receiver? You have some type of credit you have to use up first?

I have the white G4 Smart Card in my ViP211k. I do have four credits left in a $5 off for six months, but according to post number 46, that credit is supposed to be available in addition to the autopay credit:

I talked to retention and switched my parents account to the flex pack with locals. The guy was surprised we knew about it since it hasnt been made public. He also said that he never heard of SatelliteGuys but will check it out. My parents have an existing $10 credit on their account. He mentioned that when the flex pack is made "public" that anyone with the flex pack that tries to cancel $10 off for 6 months is the most retention will be allowed to give a customer to keep them from cancelling. If they are getting the $5 autopay credit already then additional $5 for 6 months will be all

Anyone on flex confirm you get all the special Olympics channels (148-01 thru - 09 or so)? Curious to see if Gold is there since Golf is not on flex.

Also any existing customers get the Hopper 3 for $10 if you call in?

97 & 98 is not in the Flex Pak, only in Welcome Pak

Someone said you had to use up all your credits before you could qualify for the deal. Question it & see if that's the reason.
I was told this by DISH loyalty department when I tried to activate the Flex pack on my 2nd account for my parents. They have $35.00 a month off their bill till November 15th and then I can change them to the Flex pack. I was able to get my Flex pack on my main account ,even though I was getting $40.00 promo credits off my bill till November , because I called to add it before the Flex pack went live for everyone . But now my online account is locked, where I can't change to anything but a regular top programming pack till my credits run out. I have to get a csr to change my programming till then. Once that day comes I will sign a new two year deal to freeze both accounts core programming price in for the Flex pack and get the $5.00 discount for having e bill and auto pay.

My concern is that the Flex Pack deal might be a limited-time offer that will not be available by the time my credits expire. I am trying to get DIRT to confirm that the offer will still be available then, or find out how I can qualify for the offer before my credits expire, if the offer expires before then.

You could always ask them about giving up your credits, if that would save you money. If not, why worry about what might be available later? Enjoy your service with the current credits and then look at your options after you no longer have them.

I did ask exactly that. Money-wise, it would be a wash ($5 per month credit either way) but my concern is that by accepting a short-term six-month credit, before I even knew that Flex Pack existed, I may have completely disqualified myself from the long-term 24-month credit with the price freeze. This is especially annoying considering that many other Dish subscribers must have gotten six-month credits at around the same time I did, for the same reason (the Tribune dispute) and now, for some unknown reason, Dish is trying to disqualify us from the Flex Pack deal. I was not told that the six-month credit would disqualify me from a long-term deal. Otherwise, I would not have accepted the credit in the first place. Now, as long as the 24-month deal is still available after my credits expire, and there is no price increase before that time, then I am fine with that. I just want some assurance that Dish isn't trying to rip me off just because I complained about the loss of the Tribune channels.

DIY channel shows part of flex pack, is it part of flex or just showing up because it's on free preview this month, anyone know?

Flex Pack may be a cheaper rate when viewed next to other Dish Offerings, but... the Flex Packs end up being more expensive comparatively to the other packages. I was trying it out for comparison sake, and if you keep adding on, a message pops up saying that the "Regular Packages" are less expensive. They may be less costly, but I believe they are actually more expensive in terms of what you actually get per channel.

Well, when you hypothetically start adding channels you MIGHT want SOMETIME, of course it will add up.

Correct. On a per channel basis the Flex Pack will most likely be more expensive. Just as it would be more expensive on a per channel basis if you could sub to individual channels. That's a point that has been made for many years.

BUT, the idea is to decide if the channels offered at the lower package pricing is of benefit to you. For instance, for me the Flex Pack+Locals+National Sports pack is cheaper out of my pocket and has all the channels I would actually watch, or at least all but at most 2 channels. I lose Golf Channel and BBCA, but they aren't worth the $25/month additionally it would cost me to have them.

As info, I have changed my sub from the Flex Pack because my son wanted channels in the T200 and the Multi-Sports pack as well as the wireless Joey so he can watch. He is paying those extra charges. When/if his GF lets him move back in, I'll be dropping back to the Flex packages.

So the idea is to make a personal choice between channels you want and how much out of your pocket you are willing to pay for them. IOW, it is, as usual, all about choices.

Of course. This happens in all facets of life. The per donut price on a dozen donuts is cheaper than 12 single donuts. So you spend more, buy a dozen donuts and then throw away the 6 you didn't eat them or just buy the 6 donuts you will eat and save some money.

As quantity goes up the price per drops.

Except now, with Flex, we have a low cost option with many of the most watched cable channels included; something the rest of the industry has yet to offer. I'm not a Dish fan boy by any stretch, but good on Dish and Charlie for leading the way.
