This is on CL locally for $100, I don't know if its worth it to drive an hour to get it. What do y'all think? Is it worth the money or do dishes this style have tendencies to warp or become unusable in some fashion from your experience?

I tell ya, Im a lil bummed, I have been out of the game for a while and had no where to store everything so I gave or threw everything away. Including a 8 ft SAMI, a Primestar and a bunch of small stuff. Im just sick about it now. But this weekend I should be picking up that 8 ft mesh I had a post about a few weeks ago so heres to new beginnings!

Given that many recommend 10'+ dishes, why invest in one that is less than a quarter the surface area?

Yeah, using the man in the picture for size comparison, that looks to be a 1.8M or closer to 6ft.
Would make an awesome Ku dish!

Yes, that would be an awesome Ku dish! Maybe you can get a better deal if you talk to the guy, but considering a nice 1.2m steel dish (new of course) is usually over $100, and this one would work much better, it's not a bad deal. The mount on those is incredibly strong, and the az and el is very easy to adjust as long as you have wrenches large enough! :)
The feedhorn mount is very easy to modify for an FTA LNBF, or you can use the original feedhorn but you would need two LNBs if you don't have them already.

Now if one could find a 12 footer like that with a polar mount.....

I paid $90 for my Prodelin 1.8m dish. Find an Ajak HH drive to go with it, and you'll have the ultimate combination with a little bit of work to mate them.

It IS worth the drive. Also, you could drop that dish from 10 feet up, and it wouldn't break, much less warp.

Yes, this is 1,8m Prodelin dish. I had them 2, but only 1 left after I sold another one. After washing&cleaning it will look like brand new. I think that 100 bucks is a very bargain price for such a nice dish. I personally think that in Ku band it will work better than 3m mesh dish.

If you are looking for a fun project, I say go for it although I wonder what additional feeds (if any) it might get you over a 1.2M. What is the LOS arc for site you intend to mount it?

I have a Prodelin 1.2m AND a Prodelin 1.8m dish nearly side by side. The 1.8m dish gets an average of at least 2 db higher signal, all other things being equal.

That's a solid base signal level well worth going for, if this dish is only $100.

He better grab it quick...

Yeah I better go get it! Maybe I can get him down to $50. Would first need to feel him out, see if he knows what it is and what its capable of, or if its just a guy who's not in the hobby.

Where Im at now, not good, maybe in the 70s to the low 120s. Im a news feed hunter, I used to park my geosat pro on 91 and scan periodically. When I get where I'm going, I'm going to pick a place by what I can see. :D

I have no doubt the signal with a 1.8M dish is outstanding. The question I would ask is what feeds are you able to receive with the 1.8M dish that you aren't getting with a 1.2M dish? Is your 1.8M dish fixed or motorized? For KU, the larger the dish, the more difficult (exponentially?) it is to align, which isn't something to take lightly if one wants a motorized dish. I'm not trying to throw cold water on what looks like a fun project but it's something which should be considered depending on the objective.

91W Ku is still a great band for feeds. During the election it was hopping, and you'll see lots of what the general public does not see. There are four channels that always come up on a scan, sometimes with news, other times with just an announcement slate. It is also good for sports feeds.

Looks like it has a nice heavy-duty mounting bracket. With a scrubbing and a coat of paint, it'll look spanking new.

UPDATE: Woohoo! $65 and he'll meet me half way, in the next couple days when he heads to his camp next week!!!

You will need a 4ft x 8ft trailer, if you are going to lay it down (reflective surface UP). Otherwise you'll need a moving truck with a rolling door in back, and you can put it in on it's edge.

Heavy or not, IF you do the trailer, also take some rope or tie-downs to strap it down. You'd be amazed that even that could lift out of the trailer when hauled, and the wind hits it just right. I picked mine up from 130 miles away and did it like that.
