Favorite Android Apps

While I don't like paying for it, sirius XM was extremely valuable on our road trip over the past two weeks. We probably listened to it for about five hours yesterday driving from Memphis to Illinois. While I had some connectivity issues in the Arkansas stretch of I-55, once we got Verizon service again, it never hiccuped once.

I checked my data usage, and in the past two weeks I have used about 1GB of bandwidth. BUT that was with some pretty serious usage of audio streaming, and more than once some USB and/or wi-fi tethering.

No because of android! Using App Killers is like going to your computer and pulling the power cable from the wall instead of shutting is down properly. App killers would be great for a windows device but just is not needed for android. I know there are some who will say it saves on battery but not enough to justify killing all apps and messing something up. Linux is WAY more efficient so why bother.:up

Modified Beast0.2.1 Overclocked to 1.0 for testing only. Don't get me wrong would leave it there if i have another battery. I really use this smart phone a lot and my days are sometimes over 12 hours now.!sadroll

You only have one battery? I have three. They are cheap on Amazon.com. Reason #468 why Android is better than the control freaks at Apple and their non-removable batteries.

I will be getting more! Honestly was kinda thinking about one of these new Droids!! Well with motoblur and sense on them no thank you. With them not having a snap dragon makes it much more temping though!!

Linux is WAY more efficient so why bother.

It might be more efficient than Windows but that doesn't mean it can't use a task killer. I use one daily with no repercussions. When I can feel my phone running sluggish and my task killer tells me it's down to ~20mb free memory, something's wrong with Linux's so-called good memory management.

Glad it is working for you.:up I never said ripping out the cord of the wall does not turn of electronics i said it was not good for it!! Whatever works and makes you happy. Ask programmers what they think..

Do you charge them in the phone or in some sort of docking station?

In the phone. I am unaware of a charger.

Fact is, you can find those who say task killers can be used (and needed) or those who say they're not necessary. One group is just louder than the other... What I know is, when I use an app and 24 hours later it's still residing in memory, something's not right. But Android/Linux will kill processes when they're no longer needed, people say. Really ? When does it decide this ?

As I said, I have gotten to where I have just uninstalled apps that I dont want or need.

RAMY: Amazonmp3 is an option to install or NOT on jrummy's kangerade.

Is your phone rooted ? If it is, you can uninstall apps like this. Better yet, most ROM makers take them out in the first place.

Amazon just released the Kindle app for Android. Syncs with an existing Kindle account and provides the ability to purchase Kindle books through the Android webkit browser.

Its pretty nice. I like having access to my Kindle library when I am away from my kindle.

I don't have a kindle, as much as I really want one, we are probably done buying toys for ourselves for awhile. I haven't found an ebook app that I can read books with on my droid. I've even tried the one through my library that supports android, but all I can get through there is audio books and even that selection kinda sucks.

Well, download the Kindle app, and then just buy a free book through the kindle store and give it a try.

The kindle app is really no different than the e-reader.com app I used to use on my Palm and Samsung omnia. Its do-able, but not as nice as using a real kindle.

I would love a kindle but I like to read actual books, just my preference (by the way reading a great book called the art of racing in the rain! check it out if you get a chance)
