I'm sure some of you guys are familiar with the concept of the Fave Five, as Charles Barkley and Dwyane Wade showed us in those funny commercials.
I am going to ask you a few questions/lists, and you give your five favorites on these lists.
1. Best NFL Play-by-Play Announcers?
2. Who are your favorite members of SportsSection?
I'll give you mine:
Best NFL Play-By-Play Men (No color men, BTW)
1. Pat Summerall- IMO, the best ever
2. Dick Enberg- He's got longevity and has called many Super Bowls; he has been around for nearly 30 years and has been very good, especially considering he's worked with countless different announcers
3. Al Michaels
4. Dick Stockton- He doesn't get too overly excited, but knows how to raise his game (and voice) for big plays and game (see the Panthers/Rams 2OT playoff game from January 2004); knows how to mesh with different announcers (Matt Millen, Moose Johnston, etc.)
5. Greg Gumbel- His brother Bryant was a flop, but Greg is very good- quaint, subtle, and knows how to call big plays without getting too excited
Favorite SportsSection Members
1. BillD- He's been my buddy since DBSForums; great contributor; he's a Boston guy, but doesn't look at everything through rose-colored glasses (he wanted Manny gone after he shoved a team executive down); has been around a while, so he's familiar with lots of old-school stuff; the prototypical Boston sports fan
2. SandraC- Also a migrator from DBSForums; gives great analysis on sports from a female perspective; a real fitness freak with all those triathlons; has a hatred that runs for the Islanders so deep, it's riduculous; always makes us laugh; the protoypical New York sports fan
3. HD MM- Very emotional guy; lives and dies with his Cleveland/Ohio area sports teams; keeps hope alive every year for his teams; has a deep history of football and baseball; very frustrated with Cleveland's history of failure in sports, but keeps the faith
4. Jimbo- He's more substance than style; gives good analysis on teams and games; is the ultimate two-faced NFL fan, for he riits for the bumbling Lions and legendary Steelers; talk about polar opposites!
5. This is a hard one; i'm deciding between Paul Wozniak or mccoy- one has a phenomenal philosophy on college football, while the other is LOL funny, especially with his Etroit Lions and 'the evil school down south'
(Honorable mentions to salsadancer, anders, jwfgeol)
