I will draw you an example:
This week right now I have 11 pitching appearances. I am getting beat with 12.
Even though I am getting beat in that in the appearances category I have 55.2 inngs compared to 38.1. I am also winning in outs 167 to 115 strikeouts and wins 3 to 1.
I am getting beat in losses 3 to 4 and saves 6 to 3.
My ERA is 3.40 to 3.52, WHIP is tied somehow @ 1.2 and I am getting beat on strikeouts to baseonballs 2.56 to 2.85.

So even though I don't have the most appearances I am winning in the pitching catagory.

Sorry, all that means is that some of the useless stats are in your favor this week. They will even out over time. Some games closers will get 1 out, some they will get 3, but not many more than that. What makes a game started important? Outs, appearences, GS, & k/bb are just categories that mush up the stats and take the strategy out of the game. So do GS,GP, BB, K, OBP & SLG for batting.

What makes game started important? If you have 2 pitchers that start during the beginning of the week and have a low ERA, than you can sit the other starters out the rest of the week to win that stat if you feel ok with it. With the GS stat you cannot do that because you run the risk of losing that stat. The strategy behind this it so that if you have players that suck that week on your team, then they will hurt your team just like in real life.

The same thing with GS and GP on the Batting side.

BB is Base on Balls so if you have a person that is intimidating and gets walked alot you have an advantage because he is not able to hit and therefore he is not helping your batting average.

K = strikeouts this is self explanatory.

OBP = on base percentage, again if you have a player that is walked alot and does not get to hit this helps you. "This is one of the MOST important stats in Baseball" how does this not make sense? You cannot score if you cannot get on base right.

SLG = slugging percentage, when a teamate is on base you want someone who can move that runner "again this is one of the most important stats in Baseball"

On pitching

k/bb = strikeouts per base on balls. you don't want a pitcher that walks alot now do you?

Look on the back of a Players Baseball card. You will see all of these stats as they are important for the game.

Sorry, we're going to have to agree to disagree on this. 12 categories is more than enough for me. You seem to want to compare this to "real life." Sorry, it's not, that's why they call it fantasy baseball. THis is the 4th yr I've played, all in 12 category leagues & the 1st time in this 24 category league. This one has bored me so much that I'm not even paying any attention to it. Looks like I'll end up in last because I'm sure I'll be giving away stats that I don't even care about.

What's funny is I haven't looked at mine since the draft occured becuase of all of the silly categories and I'm not last, yet. lol. ... 24 is way too many..

I want to preface this post with the fact that I ran a football league for my buddies on yahoo and had the same kinds of griping..why are we getting 10 points for this or 3 points for that. To that I would respond with"The rules were posted before the draft so you all joined knowing the rules."

So if ya have a problem with it tough crap.

I guess the categories I have a problem with are at bats, games played, games started, appearances and innings pitched.

games played and started...I dont think should be rewarded..and At bats are kinda funny to calculate. If two teams get to the plate the same amount of times and one team makes all outs and the team makes all outs but gets a walk...he loses the AB category. The reply would be but he makes it up in the walks category, but still the fact is a team in this scenario would get credit for being worse.

I think if the innings quota was 50 then that would take care of sandbagging pitchers.

This isnt criticism..its an opinion. In real life I ran the Babe Ruth Baseball league in my home town for four years when I was 25-28. So believe me I know you cant keep everyone happy.

You're right, I didn't even look at the categories when I signed up. I've played in another Yahoo league the past 3 years, we always had 12 categories & I didn't even realize there were more categories. Live & learn. I have found that I've gone days without looking here & have given very little attention to this team. It sound as I'm not the only one. On the other hand, I update my other team at least every other day. So, we'll see how this team goes.
