I have never heard of this, but I will. Is this the same "hit" you would get to reauthorize a receiver used for travel in the RV?

No problem, I ran into this a few years back on an old EHD as well. It takes a little time as the Hopper has to index the drive and reauthorize each of the recorded programs. You might have seen the light flashing in that 1/2 hour.
