There are multiple issues with EHD that have been discussed on here and I am not sure what the current status of the issues currently is. Issues:
  • Recordings transferred from EHD back to Hopper are unplayable
  • In a two Hopper setup, while viewing one Hopper you are not able to view EHD attached to the other Hopper
  • EHD is not available on Dish Anywhere app

So are these issues fixed, still broke but will be fixed "soon", or working as designed and will never be fixed?

1) Don't have that issue. (Although I haven't tried to transfer things back to my Hopper from the EHD)
2) No plans on fixing that, there are not enough MOCA channels to allow for that.
3) Don't know if there are any plans there. (Although would be nice)

Moca doesn't have anything to do with #2. For moca bandwidth, watching from the second Hopper's EHD would be no different than viewing from it's internal drive.

These are not my problems.

I have a problem in the last few quoted seconds of the transfer.
It just does not complete the transfer even when it says it is done, i.e., 0 sec left.
"An error occurred while transferring events to your "External Device 1 (or 2)".
I have hundreds of shows transferred and tens that will not complete.
Weird: some will complete on a days-later try. Many just refuse.
This makes it difficult to do a batch job of transfers. I don't like babysitting.
After it hangs up it may decide to not allow any transfers on that port.

Sometimes if restarted it comes up with a 2-sec transfer, which we know is a lie, it takes minutes.

Why oh why oh, can we not have names for the drives instead of External Device.
It gets confusing when you are transferring on 3 channels as I often try.
Some drives you can distinguish by their sizes but it would only take 1 record to name each.
Well, a little software to set on initialization and to retrieve the names.
But it would avoid the problem that the EHD Transfer screen (usually correct and allowing more drives)
differs sometimes from the DVR Recordings Screen in numbering the drives, there limited to 1 or 2
and the error message drive numbers.

If viewing your EHD from anywhere is important to you, a Slingbox attached to your Hopper works great.

Missing and/or incorrect icons for programs on EHD. (And some messed up descriptions, too.)

And my perpetual problem, I can only see less than 20% of the recordings on the internal HD when in the transfer screen.

And a new one. When starting a recording on an EHD i now get "preparing EHD" message for 5 or 10 seconds, before the show starts to play.

That was a big problem in the early days of the Hopper. I lost a bunch of recordings myself. But, I thought it had been long fixed. I am thinking of upgrading to a HWS. But, not if I can't reliably transfer my existing Hopper recordings via EHD.

You should be able to transfer most of your recordings TO EHD. Why would you ever want to transfer them back to clutter the tiny 2 GB internal HD. Mine fills up in 2 months on a new box. Who needs to shorten that time.

For people who are upgrading or replacing their DVR, transferring is quite common.

Plus, most normal people delete the programming as they watch it, so it doesn't accumulate as quickly. My two-year-old Hopper's HDD is about 65% full. And, that is with my wife's habit of recording tons of crap, and never actually watching it, as well as forgetting to delete shows after watching.

I couldn't imagine filling up 2TB in two months. But, then, I do other things than watch TV. (such as spending ridiculous amounts of time reading and posting about the systems used for watching TV.)

I want to transfer them back because of the other two issues, being unable to view EHD from Dish Anywhere or from the second Hopper.

Scott, I agree with JM42. Please explain your comment.

I am having a problem playing back some shows from my EHD. All the shows show up on EHD but they do not play. I get a black screen. Is this a common problem?
