ESPN Yanks Unflattering Lebron James story

ESPN and LeBron James. Everything wrong with professional athletes and sports "journalism" in a single nutshell.

Though constantly surrounded by an entourage of security, family and longtime friends, he was disappointed when a club offered him a male waiter.
“I wish they’d have one of those girls with no panties do that instead of the guy,” he said as a waiter delivered another bottle of vodka.

I read the story on a Celtics blog yesterday. It's still on Deadspin. Basically, it depicts LeBoob as a selfish ego maniac that loves being the center of attention (duh).

More proof on how ESPN journalists are irresponsible in their coverage. It's networks like these that try to create this unrealistic figure by not reporting with full honesty the characters these players really are. Then when they get in trouble (Tiger) or do something stupid (LeBron), we wonder how someone who we thought was "perfect" could do so wrong...

Something us non-clevland fans have said for a long time now, but for some reason the cav faithful kept denying. I think they said something like "he just likes to put on a show for the fans" When truth be known hes just strokin his ego.

The thing with Lebron, he is really no different than any other high end diva superstar...regardless whether it is sports or entertainment. He was coddled by the ESPNs of this world since HIGH SCHOOL!!!!! Not neighborhood recognition...not city recgonition, not state recognition...but WORLD WIDE where his high school games were on WORLD WIDE television on ESPNs main channel... and folks are actually surprised he acts this way??!!

Rationalizing Lebron's behavior doesn't make him any less of a jerk. Mention ESPN, neighborhoods, cities, and states all you want. The ultimate responsibility lies with Lebron James. Many athletes are coddled, most of them don't turn out like Lebron James.

People get protective of their own teams/players. This forum is a case in point. The people who are now defending Lebron have skin that ages faster and no state income tax. ;)

Not protecting him at all. He now play for the HEAT, He will now help the team win championships for the next 4-6 years. No one will see me wearing a Lebron jersey, nor a Wade jersey nor a Bosh jersey....nor will you see me writing up letters of encouragement nor special invites to come over the house for a barbeque. As opposed to ALOT here, I root for the name in the front...not the back. SO IF you are gonna insinuate ANYTHING, have the guts to say it.... don't hide behind little inuendos and cute eighth grade hints.;)

Perhaps I'm guilty of being naive, but in all fairness, prior to "The Decision", the media has done a disservice in disclosing the "real LeBron". The media as a whole and also the owner ignored his antics until he turned his back on them. Now, it's amazing at all the stuff that's coming out. Now, we're finding out who the the real LeBron really is and it's not too flattering.

My point stands as I stated it. Spare us the victim routine.
