All of a sudden, my system started acting erratically. I have all satellite positions stored with USALS, and the motor used to go from satellite to satellite just by changing channels - as it should. Now, if I go, for example, from 97W to 93W, the motor drives the dish all the way to 130W or 140W, who knows!! I've tried flashing the box with the factory .bin and re-scanning all sats, which seemed to work for a while, then the same thing started happening again. I have to change satellites manually. Any ideas as to what might be causing this behavior?

Yeah, its called Sonicview 4000. I had one that did the exact same thing. Went bat guano crazy anytime you moved the dish...it would take off to 148 on a whim. I thought it was the motor, but it was the receiver.

Sorry I don't have better news for ya, I just wanted to tell you you aren't alone. :(

Update

OK, have been trying to troubleshoot this issue, with no results. What's happening is that every time i switch satellites, the motors goes West regardless, and stops somewhere close to the Western end of the arc. What I have to do is switch satellite and while the dish is heading to the West, I select the channel I want to watch, hit "Signal", and them select USALS, then "Go to Sat Position". Then I wait until the whole thing comes back from the far West and lands on the selected sat. What in the world is going on? Tried resetting the motor, no avail. It was working just fine until last night...

That's the EXACT same thing that happened with mine...If I get a few minutes tonight I'll dig up the thread for ya. :D

When the dish lands on the sat you want, try "saving" the position. That actually makes it a Diseqc 1.2 control, but I think that's all the SonicView 4000 does. That was the way my Buzz Plus worked. I had to find the sat using USALS, then press "save position" ( or Store position, it's been awhile) . The receiver doesn't have true USALS support ( doesn't claim it either, I believe ) .
:(

I know what that is...been watching too much "Billy the Exterminator" on A&E ;)
love that show:)

Have to agree with you Iceberg, the other day they had an all day marathon on "Billy" on my Bell Dish - couldn't get enough of it. One interesting episode was where Bees had taken over the inside wall of a house and they recovered something like 8 pounds of honey!! Also like the side show about his Brothers' romantic problems.

Back to the topic, ViewSats have been known to lose their memory from time to time,- although mine has been good for a couple of years now - (touch wood). When they lose their memory its curtains, you have to rescan in every Satellite again which can be a very time consuming task.

Stogie, did you ever get the problem figured out? I thought I did, by using the "Motor" instead of "USALS", and it worked fine until it again "forgot" where the sats are!! Very annoying...

Yeah I fixed it, sold it to a guy on fleabay. :D

I now use a Coolsat 5K for my dish moving. which I don't use much anyway, because I have two BUD's...:)

Yes agreed or live and decomposed Rats in the attic. Iceberg do you know if "Billy the Exterminator" is available on any free channels on Satellites where we don't have to pay for it? ie on C Band?

Billy the Exterminator - A&E TV
click on video and they have clips and full episodes

I guess I'll have to start videotaping my possums and coons for you folks lol. Have both come to the back yard nearly every night looking for handouts. No gators though. (I hope)

I have some of the same problems on my Viewsat Ultra. In my opinion, they are totally unreliable to drive motor with. Would never own another one. Works fine with switches, but will only support 8 lnb's max. That's why I went to Coolsat and am happy with it.
