EPG for newbie!

Are there many FTA channels that include EPG? if so which are those or how can I figure out whether there's EPG in it? is the EPG different from the SI information that gets dumped when used with dvbtune -i?

have downloaded tv_grab_dvb-0.9. and so far not been able to find channels with EPG in them. tuned with dvbtune and created a channels.conf file that I am using with tv_grab_dvb. is this the right tool?

is there any other way I can extract EPG? is EPG part of a channel stream? as you can see - totally confused.
but then need to be able to extract EPG info a given channel - provided its there and hence all these questions!!

Most FTA does not have EPG info. Some few channels do, but there ain't many. If you are wanting epg to find out what's playing when, go to titantv.com and get yourself a free account.

The only EPG I can remember seeing on the Linear side ot the picture was on Bob Jones University's channel mux, it's called BJHomesat and it's usually scrambled, but from time to time comes ITC (in the clear). The only other EPG is on the Circular side of the picture and all but 2-3 channels are scrambled. EPG is used in Europe, as channels are provided for consumers through access cards, where on this side of the big pond, it's non existent, because the programming we what is not intended for the consumer, but for the provider to resell to the consumer.
Titan TV as mentioned above is what some of us do to get program info for some channels. Note: all channels won't work on Titan TV, but a lot will. Every little bit helps.

thanks for the response folks.... i need to test out my tool that can extract EPG info when tuned to a multiplex and finding it hard to get an FTA channel that I am sure transmits EPG. I am in India and pretty much have been looking at channels from ABS 1 @ 75 degree E.
If you happen to know of any FTA channels with EPG that I can get hold of with a 1.2m dish in India, do let me know.
