Echostar Satellite Status Update

If it ends up there, they will have equal or more options as compared to today. The new spot beam sats have both conus there would either stay as spares or become available for other use.

We can expect to see the fcc application sometime next year with details.

I know DirecTV has some transponders at 110 that Dish doesn't have access to. When the new satellite goes up, will Dish have access to all the transponders on the satellite, or would DirecTV be entitled to space there as well? (especially if the current satellite at 110 gets shut off and everything moved to the new satellite) Would the FCC application go into all that detail?

DirecTV owns I think 5 transponders at 110 and have their own satellite there, even though at this time AFAIK they're not broadcasting anything other than a test card. A new DISH satellite at 110 shouldn't change that.

Directv has license for 3 transponders at 110W. They filed modification last week to shift the Directv 5 110W beam eastward so as to max signal for Puerto Rico where they will be used for Latino Service. Dish is licensed for 29 transponders at 110w and 21 transponders at 119W. Directv has the remainder at these two slots.

Thanks Nelson for the excellent information. I should have just waited for you to answer. :)

Eastern Arc Migrations in 57 DMAs, effective January 17, 2014;
DMA Map Updates in 20 Counties Delayed
UPDATED

December 18, 2013
Eastern Arc migrations
In order to prepare for the launch of the Echo 18 satellite, existing Residential, MDU Residential and Public/Private customers in 57 DMAs must begin to be migrated to the Eastern Arc and upgraded to all MPEG-4 equipment. Effective January 17, 2014, existing customers in these DMAs who call DISH for any service that requires a truck roll — with the exception of trouble calls and dishNET installations — will be required to switch to the Eastern Arc and upgrade to MPEG-4 equipment; DISH will be completing these changes.
Some of these DMAs have already flipped to the Eastern Arc for new customer installations.

Second DMA Map Update
Due to FCC regulations, DISH must periodically update the qualification process for our local network programming to ensure that we are using the most current Nielsen Co. data. As a result, 20 counties will switch to different DMAs (see list below). These changes will not be occurring on January 17, as was previously communicated. We will notify impacted Retailers when a new date for these DMA Map updates has been set.
Existing DISH customers in these counties will be allowed to remain in their current DMA, but will be migrated to the new DMA upon request. At that time, if an existing customer would like to switch into their new DMA, all existing Business Rules will apply. Also after the change takes effect, new customers will automatically be in the new DMA when they are qualified for locals.
Some of these changes may result in some customers being switched to the Eastern Arc, as well as additional changes.

• The following counties are moving into DMAs that are Eastern Arc only. All new customers must be installed on the Eastern Arc and have MPEG-4 equipment, regardless of Plan:
o Florence County, Wisc.
o Izard County, Ark.
o Pemiscot County, Mo.
o Ripley County, Mo.
