Joaquin developed into a CAT1 pretty fast and headed our way.
I have an 8 footer sitting outside on a table right now, time to scramble.
Get your dish farm in order folks!! ITS COMING!

Heard on the radio yesterday this storm may collide with a noreaster too like Sandy did.
I'm checking to see if that is still going to happen. YIKES!!

We already had close to 3 inches of rain here in Connecticut today, with more to come, rain expected through Tuesday.

Its been raining hard here for 5 days now. Also found this but nothing else regarding "Perfect Storm III":

Joaquin may converge with another slow-moving storm in the East to add to a serious flooding situation into early next week.

I still hoping its too early to tell for sure and the whole mess will go out to sea.

Same here with the rain. Been heavy rains for a few days.

I'm fascinated by meteorology and once thought about making it a career.
Although I am not a hurricane expert, I do frequently read the weather forums and have learned quite a lot.
If I had to make a guess I would say this Hurricane will come close to hugging the east coast up to the New England area. From there as it now looks, it will most likely pass east just under Nantucket and then out to sea.
Conditions could be similar to Hurricane Gloria in 1985. Time will tell.
As for CNN, they like to hype up everything and I wouldn't take what they say, too seriously.

Unfortunately that's the only US news channel I am currently receiving.

In this case, no news is probably better than CNN news. LOL! Agree that everything is hyped on CNN/FOX to attract viewership and boost advertising. Better to monitor the National Weather Service and watch the live maps/radar.

A satellite dish sitting loose on a table is a good target for any weather. Sounds like this storm is calling for a rain slicker, hip waders, bailing buckets and a rubber raft. Good luck, positive thoughts and prayers for our right coast friends!

I have a buddy coming over this afternoon to mount the 8 footer. The patio furniture is getting old, may just take it to the dumps/recycling. Fuel supplies are all at zero. Going to do a gasoline run for the whole house genset and call in an order for 200 gallons of propane for cooking, top of the food supplies, get the tractor ready for fallen tree pulling, and get ready to ride it out no matter what comes, going to be a busy afternoon! Planned to spending a relaxing day home from work on my birthday, NOT!

The windspeed is now 80, up from 75 at the last NHS update!

Dang, Propane supplier is being inundated with calls from generator customers already.
Hopefully It will get here by Friday! Microwave cooking via generator if need be.

Fingers crossed.

Generator started after 6 months of neglect, Wheww!

85MPH Now. Getting a defined eye.

There are some models out there that actually have it passing near Murphy NC!

The blue line is making a bee-line for KE4EST.

The latest NOAA has it coming even closer to me:

If we are lucky it will hit DC like the NOAA shows and not Murphy.
I'm looking pretty screwed right now however.

Yes, I have been watching it closely!
I live give or take 450 to 500 miles from the coast, but we can get some nasty weather from these, couple of years ago, took out a bunch of trees and power lines, major flooding etc.
So we still got to watch it here. Most of the time though it is just very heavy rain and flooding in the low areas.

They don't lose much strength when the hit here usually. Only about 100 miles inland.
RIC always gets hammered. The city is full of big 100+ year old trees. Hundreds of them
fall in a TS or Hurricane and the carnage is widespread. I was being interviewed
by CNN when I lived in the city during Isabel. As soon as the interview was over, I mean seconds after we walked of someones front porch, a 4 foot diameter oak fell into the house right where we were standing. Talk about YIKES!

Out here in the country when you have tight groves of thickly packed trees its a little safer, like a wind break.
Its always the lone big oaks along the roads that fall out here, usually.
After Isabel the power outages in the outlying areas lasted for weeks.
I lived in the city near a Hospital at the time, the power was restored within a day luckily.

EDIT: Just saw something about the Nor'easter is going to startup tomorrow night.

Don't send it our way Fred - send it out over the ocean and let the fish deal with it! :D There are underground springs on our property and whenever we get over 2" in a short period the water table rises and it wells up right out of the sump hole flooding both the downstairs and garage. We bought the house in 2007 and the downstairs was supposed to be my man cave but found out the hard way in 2008 that wasn't happening.

I even replaced the existing sump pump with a 9000 gph model with a 4" drain line and it still can't keep up. Whenever heavy rains are forecast, we've resigned ouselves to making sure everything is off the floor and if the water alarm sounds we shut off the power to the furnace and water pump and just open the basement and garage doors and let it flow. :(

I'm doing my best to send it out to sea, believe me!
The 8.5' KTI is of the table and on the pole. Patio furniture went to metal recycling today, generator purred for a few hours today, so just about ready.

Wow, thats a lot of water flow coming up. Have you looked into some kind of fancy french drain system outside the perimeter of the foundation? At least you have a way to let the water out.
