Eagles' Vick calls dog ownership a 'big step' in rehabilitation

This is all so idiotic. I’m not a big Vick fan, but I’m looking at the bigger picture. People will protest Vick until to the day he dies about this nonsense, but how many athletes, movie stars, politicians and regular ole Joes get off with less after murdering another HUMAN. A couple years ago Marshawn Lynch was involved in a hit and run involving another HUMAN, and there were no protests. I’m not saying go out and beat animals here, but comes on, let’s focus on crimes against humans first after we get that squared away, we can focus on dogs and cats and hamsters and earthworms, but until then any crime against another human is about a million more times serious then the most brutal crime against any animal.

I still can’t believe Vick did time for this in a country when you can plead a murder case down to a parking ticket. This whole situation shows just how F’d up the justice system in the country is and how warped peoples mindsets are that they value the life of some animal over that of another human being. I’m hoping for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl and have Vick smiling and he holds the Lombardi Trophy to give the ultimate middle finger to all those that are ‘outraged’.

"Some Animal" ?
It wasn't ONE DOG, it was a bunch of them that were raised this way ... He ELECTROCUTED dogs for the fun of it.
It was hundreds of dogs that were taken down, WHY, because they were not TOUGH enough.

However, I do agree with you about the Human life being much more valuable, it's too bad we have a large part of society that doesn't seem to care about HUMAN life and we hear every night on the news about how many people got shot or killed over the stupidest things.

You will always have people who think what Vick did is no big deal because Vick 'only' tortured and killed dogs. Some will even laugh at it.

As compared to killing human beings? it IS no big deal. I have 2 dogs...one a rescue and one given to me as a pup...they live IN MY HOUSE and they are treated like family...and in some cases get BETTER treatment then some at home. But they are STILL animals..period.

You folks that are anti-Vick seem to think that folks that are pro-Vick think what he did was ok... that is not the case. BUT I guess you gotta do what ya gotta do to make yourselves feel better. Oh well.....

I didn't like him in Atlanta either .... flipping off the fans ....

He needed to GROW UP ....
In Philly, I think he's actually started to GROW up.

Yes, 'some animal'

Replace the word 'dogs' with 'humans' and you'll describe gangs that you'll find terrorizing, recruiting and destroying cities all across the nation. No animal life is worth more than a human life, period, case closed.

There is no reason to compare what Vick did to human beings. People do that only to justify Vick in their own mind.

What Vick did was wrong. Period. Not the worst crime ever committed by humanity, but wrong.

This is like jumping to the defense of a person who killed someone by DWI by saying 'it's nowhere near as bad as what Jeffrey Dahmer did, or the attack on the World Trade Center'.

While those statements may be true, they are irrelevant to the DWI conversation.

No animal life is worth as much as a human life. No argument there. But the deliberate killing of multiple animals is a problem and comparing that to the accidental death of one human is a flawed comparison. Both men need to be punished. If Vick had accidentally killed a dog there would be little or no outcry and if someone had killed as many humans as Vick did dogs the only discussion point would be whether they get life in jail or the death penalty.

He did his time. Still paying for his crime(financially) and IF he did get a dog, he would watched by more people than ANY foreign dignitary IN THE ENTIRE planet. So yeah, I am confident he would do nothing to the dog.

Ok, lets give him a dog, just lets strictly enforce the type of dog he can have, no dog that has a violent history at all.

Lets give him his choice of a wide variety of Family and kid oriented dogs ....

Lab, Irish Setter, so forth, maybe a smaller dog, depends (personally, I wouldn't want a small dog, but thats just me).
The little Yappers, drive me nuts ...

So I guess if he gets a dog that is not a Violent dog, I don't have a problem with it, of course, just to be sure, he should have visits from the correct animal behavior people once a month or so for the first year or two ..... if they find no problems over the course of 2 years, then, fine, let him go and do his own thing.

Jimbo I said the same thing yesterday (just not as many words) :p

Let him have a little dog...one that couldnt be trained to fight. Maybe one from an animal shelter...and have someone from the shelter show up at his house maybe once a month for a year to see how he is treating this dog.

Of course not, but it does not justify or lessen what he did.

You everyone anti-Vick seems to think some of do....that is not the case. Not the case at all. But because we are not ripping him like others, I guess that means we AGREE with what he did?:(

Nobody said that.

Does your first sentence come with sub-titles?

Yes I agree, a dog owning Vick would be good. The dog could keep Vick in a cage, and occasionally put him in a death match with some dog loving defensive end.

Where did I say that?

I was replying to the post that said no animal life is worth more than a human life. Well, no kidding. I doubt you will find anyone that will disagree with that point. And that being said, it doesnt lessen the crime that was done to the dogs in his "care".

Im not particularly ripping Vick either, but I also think it might not be the best idea to let the man have another dog based on his past actions. As far as anything else he does (football, ect), I wish him the best of luck. Perhaps he can make something good come after he learned his lesson.

Owning a pet is not a basic human right, it's a privilege. If Vick was being denied his right to work and provide for his family, that would be a problem.

Vick says his kids want a dog and he feels bad due to his prior actions. Too bad. If he was thinking about his future and his kids back then he wouldn't have to ask now...

This was a good post... I agree that he's done his time, paid for his mistakes and if he wants to get a dog and the court will allow it then by all means why not. We can't compare him to humans but what we can compare this too is getting a house dog vs getting a fighting dog. This is not like him having a pomeranian running around his house then one day he has friends come over to beat it into fighting. Nope, this is about certain dogs that are no good but for fighting. I believe it's time to outlaw ban these types of dogs from ownership in the US.

But at the end of the day there are far worse crimes and criminals to go after and take care of than worry about what he did in the past that has now been paid for already.
