EA will be building microtransactions into all of its upcoming games

I say not. I won't boycott EA because they make some of my favorite series like Mass Effect and Dead Space but I hate this model. They have stolen the microtransaction style from free to play games and then applied it to games you pay full price for. When I buy the game I want my transaction to be over. I don't want to pay $60 and then have to spend more to unlock the whole game.

I have made it a point to not buy any DLC from EA even though I do occasionally buy it for other games with more traditional models like Borderlands 2. The difference is that in Borderlands case the DLC is an expansion made after the game shipped to give more life to a game I might otherwise be done with. EA charges for stuff they leave out of the retail game with the sole purpose of increasing their sales.

Micro transactions can be implemented in effective ways but I have little to no faith that EA will do it right. I love how they quote that their mobile games use them. Problem is that most mobile games don't cost upwards of $60 and then ask for more money on top of that.

I don't think they'll go full dickhead mode and lock off parts of the game because that opens them up to legal action and much scrutiny, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them make things harder to entice people to buy out of things as opposed to grinding and roughing it out themselves.

Aka the same thing most companies are doing, they just recently talked to investors and now at this conference so their name is on the headline.

The most infamous DLC to this day came not from EA, but Take Two / Bethesda... with Oblivion's horse armor.
