E11 FCC Filing

Ok, after these two new satellites (E11 and AMC-14) are lauched E* will have E8, E6, AMC-14 and E11 available. We know E11 is going to 110 and they need two satellites at the 2 new orbit locations (MPEG4). I would assume that AMC-14 will go to one of the new locations so E8 and E6 will go to either 129 or the other location.

Does that pretty much summarizes this whole satellite shuffling?

What about CIEL-2? I forgot about that one too.

I want to know what about the rumored sat locations for the two new mpeg 4 sats at 86.5 and 97? ARe we going to have to reaim our dishes at those two new locations or not? It would be easier if we only had to keep our dishes aimed at 110 and 119 but I don't see how all of this is going to come together for a relaunch of the entire service in mpeg 4 by early next year

Well, they hope to have E11 up in October. AMC14 is set for Dec.

Id assume once they get E11 up they move E8 and or E6 to one location. Once AMC14 is up itll go to location. Then the problem of setting up NEW HD installs on these two sats and realigning all the others begins.

Its all a guess right now and Im prob talking out of my arse.

Any service at a new satellite location would require use of "Reverse DBS", where E* uses the normal DBS frequencies for uplink, and uses the uplink frequencies for DBS.

Reverse DBS requires new LNBs, since they are currently tuned to regular DBS frequencies.

So, a simple repoint would not be enough for the new service.

One would assume that the new LNBs would be as inexpensive as current LNBs, so no big deal.

So, is they lnb I have covered for 129 on my 1000.2, the only one that can pick up 129, or am I missing it al together? Just trying to understand what you mean.

The same LNB used for 129 can be used for other current DBS slots.

2ndly, if Dish were to move another bird to 129 until Ceil2 is launched it would be E6.

Dish needs to keep E8 as an in orbit spare. The best location to keep E8 as an in orbit space would be 119. When E7 and E8 were built they were designed to operate as an in orbit spare for each other. (spot beam locations and limited spot beam adjustability.) So putting E8 at 119 for an in orbit spare would but it in perfect position to take over for E7 if needed, as well as have it is the best position to be moved to either 110 or 129 in case of catastrophic failure.

You are half right. Uplink is at 24 Ghz

So the reverse dbs band is 17.3-17.7 and 24.75-35.35 ghz? And the DBS band is 12.2 to 12.7ghz.

So the lnb's current on my dish's can only pick up 12.2 to 12.7? Correct?

Except if you have a triple lnb like the dish 1000.2 sat dish. Then I bet you will need some other kind of dish AGAIN.

Problem is we just dont know yet. Id hope to be able to repoint my 1000.2, but Im sure it wont be so easy.

Hopefully it'll be a dish 500 with an LNB assembly like the 1000.2 but with only 2 eyes. You could hook up three dual tuners, plus have a port to add a third orbital slot like 61.5 for international channels. That would be great. Stay away from the plus twins!

So much shuffling going on. I had just assumed they were going to put up two spanking new sats that would be specifically allocated for mpeg4. I guess it doesn't matter in the end as long as we can get the signal and they jettison that POS E5. So the gist is that MPEG4 will be off Sats at 86.5 and 97. Will we still need anything pointed at 110 and 119 or 129? I am not technically savy so am I reading it correctly that we will need new equipment to pick up 86.5 and 97 and it isn't so simple as climbing up on my roof with a cell phone to zero in with someone watching signal strength on the other end? Will we finally say goodbye to E5?

What exactly will "more power" do for me? Will it just increase signal strength? Will it cut thru rain? Could it give me better quality? TIA

Naccoachbob,

With higher powered transmitters Dish is likely to lower the Error Code Rate, which will allow for more usable Bandwidth per transponder for carrying actual content. It will also likely mean less rain fade events, and possibly more Spotbeam capabilities.
