E11 FCC Filing

i like this.. elway

EchoStar 11 will be equipped with a camera that will supply satellite imaging
information to EchoStar’s customers by using the same DBS frequencies licensed to EchoStar at
110° W.L. Specifically, images will be transmitted back to earth on the 12.208 GHz downlink
frequency. EchoStar duly applied to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration

Yeah, thats sounds very interesting.

I know. AMC14 would be the first and E8 could possibly be the second SAT.

Misunderstood you.

Its going to fun trying to figure out what they are up to and where everything will be. Im really surprised theyd put the new one at 110 and use E8 and AMC14 for the new mpeg4. Who knows at this point.

i am lost again....

The two locations they mentioned at Summit where in the 80's and 90's.

Maybe E8 will move to one and maybe AMC14 is headed to the other.

Could they put some spot beams on E8 along with Mpeg4, and the rest of the mpeg4 on AMC14?

Hopefully Scott will be able to help clear all of this up.

Yeah, we're grasping at straws at this point.

It sounds like they want to use spot beams on E8, so I have to wonder if they can have some spots on E8, and still fit the new mpeg4 service on the rest of 8 and AMC14.

Just a few facts:

E11 which is going to 110 is FULL CONUS

E8 which will be moving from 110 has
16 CONUS transponders and
25 Spot Beam transponders among 16 beams
15 year life

AMC14 which is going up end of year has
32 (24 MHz) Ku-band transponders each supported by a 150 watt TWTA
E* has leased this entire satellite.

The document specifically says that E11 will free up E8 and E6 to "possibly move to a different location".

E11 is already very highly optimized to provide service from 110, so it would make sense that E8 and E6 could be involved in the new MPEG4 service.

Maybe so.

E6 appears to have 32 Ku Band transponders at 125w
16 at 250w
Appears one thruster and 2 transponders are out
112 solar arrays are working, 106 required for full power.
Up in 2000, 12 year life

Wonder where AMC14 comes in at, locals?

Also edited some wrong date on the above sat info post.

If E8 and E6 pair up again at a new slot and AMC 14 goes to another spot, they could have the makings of a new MPEG-4 system...

Ok, after these two new satellites (E11 and AMC-14) are lauched E* will have E8, E6, AMC-14 and E11 available. We know E11 is going to 110 and they need two satellites at the 2 new orbit locations (MPEG4). I would assume that AMC-14 will go to one of the new locations so E8 and E6 will go to either 129 or the other location.

Does that pretty much summarizes this whole satellite shuffling?

Yeah, I think so. E11 is a replacement for 110.

So 8, 6 and AMC14 are up for whatever.

I would have like to seen both new birds up for the mpeg4, 6 is kinda beat down a bit.

OK, here comes the confused part...:)

From all my research, my locals come from a spotbeam on whatever is at 110 now. If, from what I am reading, they put the new sat at 110, and from what I have read above it is full CONUS (I am guessing this means continental US), where am I going to get my locals from? I have a Dish 500.

Sorry for the stupid question, guys. Please don't laugh...

The E-11 satellite is replacing the E-8 satellite at 110 W that provides CONUS Transponders (TPs). You are getting your locals from the E-10 spotbeam satellite that is also at 110 W. E-10 is not being moved so you will continue to get your locals from that satellite. So in other words you currently receive programming from two different satellites at 110 W, E-8 and E-10 that provide signals on different TPs.

Ah, for some reason i though E10 was a spare, that explains a little.

Hopefully we'll hear more soon about locations for E8 and E6.

Found this for AMC14 at Gunter's Space Page - Information on Launch vehicles, Satellites, Space Shuttle and Astronautics :

"EchoStar, which has a contract to lease the whole capacity of AMC 14, recently asked that the satellite’s payload be modified to make it more flexible, and notably that it be capable of operating at least temporarily from Mexico’s 77 degrees west longitude orbital slot. Due to the modifications, the satellite will not be launched before late 2007"

Also found where (in 2002) it was said AMC14 would be at 105.5, but Im sure thats changed.

This is not a stupid question. E10 went to the 110 location last year. Your locals are on one of the spots on E10. E11 will be launched later this year (hopefully) and will also be located at 110 to provide CONUS service (i.e. take the place of E8).

I see I was little late with this answer.

Few questions while making up my mind :)
