Well it seems E* is finally realizing the 921 is a piece of crap! As I have seen around this forum I wrote a note to ceo@dishnetwork.com and bascially said I can;t take the 921 any more. Constant rebooting and hard resets almost weekly just to not have it drop timers or lock up. I was ready to go to Comcast. Well I wrote the e-mail yesterday and started looking up the Comcast offers. Low and behold this evening I get a call from E* executive offices offering to lease me a 942! Yippie, so hopefully in 10 days I will have a 942. Well let's hope it is better than the 921! My big concern is the OTA, I have heard mixed on the 942 OTA, I am hoping it is as good as the 921. The D* Tivo HD DVR could not get half my HD locals, the 921 gets them all fairly well. Although it does have an audio skip problem on the local CSB and NBS for SD shows.

good for you kluken!! I PERSONALLY have not yet had any problems with my 942. For the features that is has, the operation has been smooth. As for the 921 to 942 OTA comparison, I can not tell much of a difference. Maybe I am just in a good area. Actually there is ONE channel that I receive differently on my 921 than on the 942...and in this case the 942 picks it up better than the 921.

Good luck to ya

What do you have to pay? Cmon, give more details. Is this different than others who are getting the lease deal on the 942?

Standard new customer deal, lease it for $250 down and $5 a month. I will return my 921 to Costco for a refund and while I am paying $250 for now ownership it still put me ahead, I woudl have to least the 942 for a few years before it costs me more than the 921 did, by then we will be on MPEG4. I assume DIsh has a special team set up or somthing to deal with 921 people complaining to get a 942, as I got the same Exec CSR that others have posted about in another thread. She did tell me they are wokring up a special promo (purchase only) for the 942 for current custimers, but it is still a month or two away.

Good for you, let us know your experiences. I am gonna stick it out with my 921 till it is time for MPEG4, then figure out from there where to go. It all depends on how Dish treats us when the time comes.

OK, I"m just a bit confused on how this is anything special. E* is going to give you a standard lease on a 942 and you're returning your 921 back to Costco. IMHO it would be big news if the place you purchased you 921 wouldn't take it back and E* offered to give you your full purchase price back.

yea, this is more or less the standard deal (except the lease isn't supposed to be available to current customers).

I'm surprised E* didn't ask you to not post what they did for you on the Internet.

When mpeg 4 is ready, I wouldn't be surprised if the deal ends up to be a lease where they wave the upfront $250 with the 921 trade-in (which would be an ok deal).

Costco's return policy is amazing. Instead of a 30 day return policy, you can return an item far later than is the norm. This could be a great channel for those of us frustrated with E*'s receivers if they continue to carry the "flagship" products (as long as they get them early enough)

It is special becasue E* has not been allowing exisiting customers to lease the 942. I know some have had good luck with the 921, but I am constantly rebooting mine. I am on my 3rd 921. Audio drop outs on 2 local HD stations that are the 921 (if you rewind the sound is there). I have had too many missed timers and that never happened on my 501. I have since upgraded my 501 toa 120GB drive so I have a 100 SD backup now. Seems silly to have to double record everything becasue the 921 sucks so bad. And then when it drops an HD event I am stuck watching a HD program in SD. I figure $250 for thr 942 plus $5 a month will be a long time before I am upside down compared to the $500 for the 921. Even if Dish replaces owned 921 942 for free still might be better off leasing so I am not so cimmitted to E* due to equipment costs.

Actually the E* person made it soudn liek this is the norm now to handle 921 complaints. She indirectly admitted the 921 has been a problem so they are trying to take care of those customers. Kind of one of the auto makers unpublicized recalls where they won't make it publicly known, but when you come in and complain you are taken care of. Also I am sure it didn't hurt that I spend $102 a month with E* and have been with them 4+ years and they can look at my accoutn and see the 921 history I have. If they had not done the 942 I would be headed to Comcast soon. Voom delayed my jump to cable due to the 921 being so bad, but now the 942 should keep me a E* for some time.

Dish Network is weatherproof??????

Please help me to rate this deal for my friend
