DVR filling up with paid programming

Make sure you do not have a "Dish Pass" set with a keyword. Look for some common words in all those recordings, like "Paid Programming" or "No description" or even just "event" or some subpart of them. It is best to use Exact in a DP and specify the channel if you can as well as HD only, where appropriate.

And certainly check the address of your UHF remote even if you don't use it yourself, it may still be enabled. Check with Menu+Menu. Use those above say 5 unless you use a generic IR remote, which will use 1 like all your neighbors.

Weird, just had a verbal local political ad come on through a "Sponsored Link" maybe crossing it by scrolling. Even the quiet ones sure are annoying when you have quoted text below them.

actually, dish does sometimes record stuff to your reciever. i have noted it a few times in the last couple of months.

stuff like 'check out this new channel we have'. i just delete them and go on. usually they are short things like 5 to 10 mins long.

also, if you look in the TV entertainment area you will see programs that were pushed down and they change all by themselves. one week there might be 5 or more then next time i look there might only be 2.

note: my remotes are IR. i have a very few reoccuring timers, and only the wife and i and the dogs are ever in the house.

What receiver?

YOur remotes may be IR but if your receiver is capable if receiving a RF remote signal it still can. In fact if it is set to the factory default since you do not use it that increases the liklyness.

Arent all DVR boxes UHF remote capable?
Interesting question. Certainly all duo receivers had UHF for the TV2 output. The 612 ships with a UHF Pro 6.3 remote. I have no idea what the 512 ships with. But since it's a crippled 522, I would expect it can use a UHF remote even if it doesn't ship with one. There were some early DVRs such as the Dishplayers about which I know nothing.
I believe the 111 (who wants a RF-only output) and all boxes before the 501 are IR only.
I have a 4900, a non-DVR receiver but with a mulitplicity of outputs, that uses a UHF (not pro) remote.

nope the 4000, 5000, 6000 are all UHF but they're very old boxes

I have a 4700 (software upgraded to 4900) that is UHF capable. Has the antenna on the back
