dvr 921 why is this thing always running?

just purcahsed a 921 and its always on, is this normal, even when its turned off, you can hear it running,like a loud computer. this cant be power efficient technology.

All dvrs run constantly, it needs to tune to the right channel and it needs to be on to start recording.

Skidog is partially correct. All DVRs never turn totally off. But, most of them do spin down the hard drive and turn off the fan after a certain period of non-use.

The programmers have not added the spin down feature to the 921 and there is discussion that they never will.

That is the reason it will never be in my bedroom.
