DVR 522 Replacement -- Need to save videos

My 522 DVR is failing and Dish is sending a replacement. Is there a way to transfer the stored movies/shows from one DVR to another or to my PC?

Hook up a recorder to the outputs and record in real time. For the 522, that's about your only choice. Unless you want to go to those sites that teach you how to "crack the code" and record to a PC. Non trivial and I don't support the idea.

The ViP series supports high speed transfers via USB 2 ports.

Get new IDE 120 GB disk, make bit-to-bit copy (ghost -ir will do that) to new disk from 522; then use it in new DVR;worst case if you'll get 625, but manageable too.
