dvd or vcr out to antenna in on dish 500

Does anyone know, why won't my dish 500, outside antenna in pick up a signal from my dvd or vcr (chanel 3 or 4 output)? Dish tells me it should work, but it doesn't. If it did, I could record, on my 500, anything I play or see on my dvd or vcr.

Please help, is there a way?

It depends up which model of STB you have. Please tell us the box model. However, if you have the right models, then it should work as follows:

You have to tune your TV to channel 3/4. If you are trying to do this with your TV in the Video mode, you won't see it. Then you have to press the appropriate button on your remote to toggle between the input and sat. Of course, depending upon your connections, you won't see the sat at channel 3/4. Remember, this is a pass through on the older boxes and only ATSC (and a few cable bands) on the newer models.
