Does DirecTV have an "answer" to the Hopper?

No, during those hours they can record 6, with another hopper even more....
The commercial was misleading and it will confuse a lot of potential subscribers. My father-in-law was one of those people whom thought you can record 6 shows at any time from any six channels at the same time. Yes there is a disclaimer, but it does not explain what is meant by primetime anytime.

You can defend it all you want. Yes, it can record 6 channels (4 of them specfici channels) at one time during certain hours. I think Dish would have been better off going in the direction of focusion on that specific feature as it is something that they have that others do not. Instead, by simply saying it can record 6 programs at one time, with a little disclaimer that most do not understand and the rest do not read, it will lead to a lot of confusion and even some anger.

Let the phone calls to E* cs begin!!!

I mentioned the exact same to Scott when the "hawper" commercials ran.

so the 2nd one is misleading....

record the most shows at once? So tonight when you want to record all 4 basketball games who will be able to? Sure as hell not Dish as it only has 3 tuners on their Hawper (I guess as the 1st commercial says it is).
Hmmm.....lets see. tonight I have the basketball games set to record on CBS, TruTV, TBS & TNT and a hockey game on FSN North with the HR34...lets see Dish try that

and Scott tried to defend that with this
It may be misleading to you but its true, it can record up to 6 shows at once... 4 of them you might not want to watch but 6 shows just the same.

I'm sorry but in my mind its still 3 tuners vs 5. If I want my DVR to record crap that I dont care about automatically I'll get a significant other :p

Simply, FALSE ADVERTISING[/B].
Probably.

Could you name three series links that you record simultaneously that are uniquely outside the Prime Time window?

Don't get me started on the lie that is Whole Home DVR.

I can name a few in my list where in the Hawper case the 3 tuners would be maxed out or worse not able to record all ;)
Prime Time to me is way different than the few folks who want to use that PTAT thingy :)

Iceberg has said many times that he doesn't watch much broadcast at all. For him, and those that have nearly the same viewing patterns, PTAT isn't an advantage, but only 3 tuners is a disadvantage.

For me, 3 tuners with PTAT could easily replace 3 HR24s because of my viewing/recording patterns.

Since you love trolling in the D* area enough you can see my posts where I've maxed out 5 tuners. Hell I posted a pic of it recording 7 things at once :)

BINGO! I guess his short term memory sucks (or he'd rather bait) because I have posted numerous times I have more series programs on network TV outside of PTAT (or on CW, My, or the local Indy station) than I do during prime time....last I checked it was 5 vs 3 (5 outside of that time vs 3 during)

And for me 3 tuners isnt enough. Friday night I maxed out the 5 and actually needed one more...last night 5 was enough :)

Are those in HD in Indy? Here, those are all SD and we all know how bad D*'s SD sucks!

Only two channels added in HD would be ideal for me. BBCA and Epix, the latter because they are covering some European boxing these days. I need another movie channel like I need another hole in my head! :)

Yep! Indy has HD, thank God! If we didn't I wouldn't be watching anything local!

I can't even name anything I watch that may be considered prime time. Useless feature for me.

Actually Dish has 1 sports channel I love that Directv doesn't in HD, Sportsman ...
I know you love this channel and I am glad that Dish has it available for you to watch. What I am about to ask it not meant to be a criticism of the channel nor the acitivities they show on it. But would you really consider this a sports channel? I realize you may love to hunt and fish, and I have nothing against hunting and fishing, but are hunting a fishing truly considered sports? IMO they are not.

Too me a sport is an athletic game played between two teams or individuals equally trying to out score or perform the other by both reaching the same goal. Hunting and fishing do not fit under those parameters IMO.

Hey, for a while there ESPN seemed to have 32 hours of poker per broadcast day :) I guess sometimes they do break a sweat... :)

In a similar vein.. how many hours of music per day on MTV, VH1, CMT? :)

Because you don't consider it a sport doesn't mean it isn't... ;) They sure don't sell fishing tackle, tents, guns or ammo in the food section of stores ... :D
