Do you agree/Disagree how Dish Network Handle the Voom Massacre?

If dish can delete channels at their will, are ANY channels, HD or not, going to be reliable???

Enjoy CHILLER??? It may be gone tomorrow. Is THIS any way to run a tv company...!

I think my contract should also now be VOID so I can consider other options.
Dish broke the contract. I'd LOVE to see a class action over this.

I'm sure people have tried class action suits before, but it's only a waste. In the fine print of the contract with Dish they claim the sole right to change programming at any time. EVERY provider covers themselves this way.

Think about how many extra frivolous lawsuits would arise if you could just sue at will.

WHAT advantage, from a programming standpoint, does E* have now?

The PQ gap has flipped to D*'s advantage....
The Nascar/NFL/MLB exclusives remain a hammer.....
More HD channels......

Other than maybe a few international channels, does E* have ANYTHING left they can tout as a competitive advantage???

That is a great point, although I'm not sure that Voom was much to tout. I don't think most people gave those channels any thought. I think with these channels they now can at least get the necessities uplinked in HD, thus putting themselves back in the ball game.

I know you said other than hardware & price, but those are 2 HUGE competitive advantages in my book.

Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. You pay a little less (depending) for Dish, but you get far fewer channels. You pay more for D*, but you get a lot more content.

Dish is the Ford, D* is the Lexus in that regard.

I know...... I was trying to point out though how lopsided things are on the programming side right now.....

I love the 722 and 622 I have. I like SciFi HD and ESPNews HD. But I watched Gameplay HD and Monsters HD a lot, and enjoyed HD News as well.....

I hope a judge forces them to put them back up, but I'mnot holding out much hope. It looks like E* will write some more big checks in legal settlements, since Voom will be suing them silly over this....

I got Dish Network because of their programming. For the channels that I REALLY want Dish gives them to me for $25/month cheaper than DirecTV and $35/month cheaper than Comcast. So actually I'm getting MORE channels at a CHEAPER price, which is different from what you are suggesting.

ETA - The per month difference includes hardware costs.

For my taste, only Travel-HD. Plus, Direct has 2 of my locals in HD and Dish has none. (Yeah, only 2 sucks, but if Direct can't negotiate for the remainder, how the hell is Charlie ever going to?!)

The thing about VOOM is/was that it had to be a temporary solution anyway. It was created to give people HD when the rest of the entertainment world was dragging it's heals on that front. Now, most channels are going HD, the digital transition on broadcast is in less than a year, and having dedicated, non-branded HD channels is less necessary. Sure, there are a few people who truly like the specific content that the channels provide, but most new subscribers would say "what is monsters HD?" and would rather see other, familiar channels in HD. That's life.

From an existing customer point of view there will be many whom liked the Voom channels and those that could care less. I for one watched the news, Kung-fu and Monsters. These channels helped me to decide Dish over Direct. That gets to my point. New customers will look at #1 content, #2 price, 3# differences, and last #4 value. Content, price and value can be argued for both but you cannot discount the Voom channels being a differentiator for Dish. Questions to contemplate. Will new customers based on exclusive provider channels be more inclined to Dish or Direct and was the cost of Voom worth it to Dish? What exclusive channels does Dish have? or Direct? What channels are out there and available for exclusivity?

I can't say that I would choose either. But everyone has different taste.

DISH has to think in a much more broad perspective. They are trying to accomodate a very large audience. If they are shooting to increase the net number of subs, most of them will not know to compare any of the current channels with any of the VOOM channels.

First, that isn't a valid comparison. Those channels were on the air after Tennis and WFN were uplinked and turned on.

Second, you can't give a comparison until you see what they do with the new satellite space they have freed up.

Technically, they haven't freed anything up. The Voom channels are still there. I also think it IS a fair comparison to compare channel vs. channel, because that's the only way of looking at it. Are we getting better programming or not? I am not disputing many of the new additions of the HD lineup, but I will certainly defend the opinion that far less people will watch the likes of Babe Winkelman or reruns of tennis matches from 2 years than Monsters or Voom Movies.

Sorry, I took it as an either/or comparison. Yes, you can debate the content. I don't care for any of the 4 listed.

if the voom channels are still there, why are you griping so much?? If they've been "hidden" but not removed, that could be an indication that they (dish) are still working to get the legalities worked out to put them back on.... (if in fact that's why they're hidden)
