JAG72- There are more and more rumors and indications from others that iphone 5 will support LTE which will be in full Verizon roll-out in 35 announced areas in the US by this summer. I just posted another indicator this morning that China Mobile claimed they reached an agreement with Apple that the next iphone will fully support TDCDMA and LTE. As for what Verizon does on they traditional upgrade program, it is "New every 2" which is known to most you get to upgrade to a new phone for the new customer subsidy price every 2 years. However, not known to most is that if you want to upgrade after 12 months, you can for a $20 charge on top of the subsidy price. This offer may not be valid in all locations YMMV.
Personally, I will qualify for the iphone5 about July but I have no intention of getting one even if it is LTE. My plan is to buy the Mifi device in LTE which I'm not elgible for in new every 2 but the speed will be worth the price. Then apply my unlimited grandfathered number to the myfi card. In the Fall, I may get the iphone 5 for my wife. Personally, however, my crystal ball tells me I will be on an Android phone next and my wife on the iphone.
Apple releases like clock work. iphone versions have historically been released in June. Apple has never released the iphone in January. Investors actually bank on this. Doesn't matter because nothing with it will happen officially until May show ( was it also in June? ) So all this stuff is just rumor / speculation by Satelliteguys standards until then. New distributors, like the foreign carriers and Verizon happen when they are contract ready so there is no calendar history for that. That's why Verizon iphone4 with CDMA happened in Feb 2011.
Another reason I like the iPhone is the simple fact that there is no better smart phone for integration into the technology I use as a teacher: http://www.satelliteguys.us/phone-zone/144410-what-your-favorite-iphone-app-10.html#post2443774
I am also starting to use my iPad for many of these same features
JAG72 said:I know they release in June. My original question was if AT&T would get the new iPhone in June and Verizon in January? I have heard this as a rumor and I am trying to find additional information. This would give AT&T a 6 month exclusive on the iPhone.
It is actually pretty simple. I have it set up on more than one computer. You simply save the IP addresses of each computer on your device and log into that particular IP address at the time. This will allow you to control the PC through your device. No admin access needed on your PCInquiring minds want to know - by using VNC technology with it, and controlling your classroom pc, I am guessing you are in the same classroom all day, and it truly is YOUR computer, so you are easily able to set up VNC software on the PC to interact with the ipad? As a college prof, I am in different classrooms all the time, and while I can customize my Windows user space, I don't have admin control of the classroom machine to be able to accomplish that. But if I could, it would be very nice.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, just interested in the question - as its one of those things I have been wanting to do; to find ways to use tablets as an educational tool.
Not according to their website. Under products they only have iphone and ipad listedits all with vnc? it though android had vnc also? so whats the advantage of ios then?

RealVNC - VNC® Viewer for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
I have tried other VNC software, but they are either not as good, cost a lot of money, or don't work through our District's server.aaaah, realvnc may not, but there are other vnc options
