Do I own my Dish HD DVR? (622)

Hello-

I am about to make the switch to Comcast from Dish Network. I have been with them for about 18 months now, and have not been 100% happy with the service. I am also going to save about $50 a month by bundling with Comcast.
I am not looking forward to trading in for a lesser DVR, but I think it is time to make the move. I get Free over the air locals in HD, but the signal just goes out to much for my liking, and comcast provides that over their cables.

When I signed up for Dish, I had to pay like $250 for the Dish VP 622, HD DVR.

Do I now own that piece of equipment, or will I get that money back?

Also, I previously had Comcast 2 years ago, at a different house. I still have a Digital decoder box. Will that work with my new service??

For $250, it is probably a lease, but call Dish to make sure.

WOuldn't all the Comcast Decoder boxes be leased? If that is the case why do you still ahve that or am I missing something on options for a Comcast box?

All 3 questions are NO, digital cable boxes are addressable so it won't work without being authorized besides they still own it so I wouldn't advise them I had it.

Yes, I believe that I leased the box. I thought that I saw somewhere that you may get that lease cash back. It didn't sound right, but a boy can dream

I have managed to get all the local channels over the air with a [FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Times New Roman][FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Times New Roman][FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Times New Roman]Zenith ZHD-TV1 HDTV Digital Indoor HDTV Antenna, but the reception can be so-so at times, and last night during the super bowel, I had to keep adjusting the direction to get the picture. On top of that, my reception is lost during rain and wind, and I have had a tech out to check the alignment, and he said that he could not get it any better, even though I'm only about 60%.

The Comcast Digital box that I have, is one that I have had for several years now. When we moved, I thought that my wife had returned it, but I found it a few weeks ago in storage. When we switch to Comcast in a few weeks, I will order an HD DVR and two, SD DVR's. However, on top of that, I have this existing box, that I would like to use in my office. Will it work? Or does it have to be activated or what?

This is one of those posts that doesn't answer your question, but if you have an attic, you might consider getting an antenna (or a couple of antennas linked together) installed professionally. Once you do this, your signal will be stable and you'll never have to fiddle with aiming it. You also won't have to look at the antenna ever again.

jeff is onto something there. i made four of those 2x4 coat hanger antennas that someone on here posted a link to, got one on each corner of the roof of our apartment complethey are out of sight) and have had awesome signal since. before i had a terk amplified ant, that only got me like 78 -80 on sig strength and now i am at around 85. oh yeah, and only cost around 20 bucks. the cabling was the most exp part.

My question is how did you get them linked together i have tried to link 2 together and like others have said that they would cancel each other out. any help would be great

You would use a filter, right? I'm way out of my knowledge domain here, but I remember the guy who installed my mini antenna-farm in the attic talking about filters to combine the signals from the different directional antennas.
