Had to laugh this morning. There was a Mets/Yankees 2006 pull-out section in todays NY Daily News. Turning through the pages, what do I see? - A full page add by Dish Network showing all the great packages they offer. What they fail to mention is that they don't carry the Mets or the Yankees. For the unaware, they could end up with a dish on their roof and no baseball in their house. :(

so because Dish doesn't carry the Mets and the waste-land Yankees, they aren't allowed to advertise in the paper? If they didn't mention that they carry them, then they did nothing wrong. And your statement is completely misleading (unlike Dish's) because they will have baseball in their house. Maybe not every game of those two teams, but there will be some, and there will be baseball. So apparently, the only one being misleading would be you!

No they can advertise in the paper. Just not the special Yankees, Mets Promotional page when they only provide 15% of the Mets games and probably a similar percentage of Yankees games. This is only because its available on the local channels that they carry anyway. If your a Met or Yankee fan. While I agree you won't watch all 150 games, you'll want to be ABLE to watch all of them, so that when you want to watch.

So my point is, that the Mets/Yankees promo section of the paper is not the section you should be avertising if you don't care about your Mets and Yankees Fans.

For the record:
Most cable companies now have Both the Mets and the Yankees channels and DirecTV has YES and is rumored to be picking up SNY VERY soon before opening day. Dish I wouldn't hold my breath.

well let's take a look at that, when a paper does a special section and they have advertising in it, do the companies come to the paper or does the paper go to them. If there is no mention of getting all the Mets/Yankees games then where's the problem? They aren't Running a 50 point font saying get Dish and see all the games. The paper needed cash to put the section out and Dish was willing to buy an ad.

How about the 3 commercials an hour for Dish Network on WFAN the all sports station here in New York. They can bravely fit the ads in between the irate sports fans calling and griping about no baseball this year on Dish. There’s some advertising dollars spent wisely eh?

10 Year sub here - going...going...gone!

If a station is willing to sell their ad time to Dish, then Dish has every right to buy it, plan and simple. And my guess is that Dish was buying ad time back in November, October, January.

The point of ccash's post (which apparently is over your head) was that its kind of stupid buying ad time on a sports station in a market during baseball season in a market that you don't carry the local baseball teams in.

It goes something like this

Caller: I can't believe that Dish network doesn't carry SportsNet, opening day is coming up, guess I'll have to switch

Less than two minutes later
Dish Network.. 23 HD Channels, No equipment to buy* ,etc etc.

If you are buying ads on WFAN, your not going to get Non-sports fans and a majority of them are going to be either Mets or Yankees fans, who may also be NFL, Hockey, fans but are probably thinking about baseball because its the beginning of the season.

No one says they can't buy time on WFAN because they don't offer all of the Mets and Yankees game, only that its stupid during baseball season.

* While technically there is no equipment to BUY, you must pay a equipment upgrade FEE which is $299. That definately is misleading because No equipment to buy to most people makes them think, no upfront cost maybe a monthly lease fee of $5-10 a month. Not $299 upgrade fee and then a monthly lease fee.

it's no more stupid than having to sit thru DirectTV or Comcrap commercials while I am watching Dish.

Actually that makes perfect sense because DirecTV and Comcast want you to switch to their service from their competitor DISH.

This is more like running a spot on the new KKK TV network for Black History Month :D

Clearly there is some kind of ad push in NY right now. Dish was not buying this amount of advertising (print, TV and radio) Nov - Jan. They can do whatever they want with their ad budget. As a stockholder and 10 year sub paying top dollar, I just don't understand it. No OLN no Yes no SNY. Sports rule in this town. If they want to risk losing subs over $1.75 fine, I'll go elsewhere. Does anyone out there think their Dish Network bill is not going to go up $1.75 over the next year or 2 anyway?

The thing that is so ridiculous is that Dish Network always hides under this veil that they cannot get a deal for a channel unless it is a good deal for all their customers, because they do not want to raise the bills of all their customers. However, their prices are right in line with DirecTV and all the local cable companies that all have these RSN's. If Dish had lower prices I would say okay they are trying to keep the pricing affordable. Personally, I think it is a load of garbage, because their prices would remain the same whether they had the RSN's or not. All it does is if they paid for these RSN's they would be lowering their profit margin.

BTW, if Comcast or DirecTV buys ad time on a local channel or CNN / ESPN / whatever, Dish cannot just black out the commercial because they don't like it. Just like when ESPN says "presented in HD by Dish Network" do Comcast and DirecTV black out the screen for a few seconds? No.

And as said multiple times above, Dish has every right to put a full page ad in the NY Daily News Yankees / Mets preview section, and to buy time on full-time-sports stations like WFAN. But it *is* stupid. Dish would be better served targeting ads to the NYC non-sports by putting ads in the business or entertainment / arts sections.

Philadelphia and San Diego have been in a similar position since the beginning of DBS because the cable companies own the TV rights to the local teams. Since this happened in New York it is possible it could happen in any big city - LA, Chicago, Miami, who knows? If this trend continues Dish will have less and less value for subscribers interested in sports programming. At some point they will have to re-evaluate their strategy on this.

I get the inclination you are not a baseball fan, do not like the Yankees/ Mets or just hate New york due to some type of parochial prejudice...Fine....
Dish is not advertising to baseball fans in the NY metro area...The ad is not misleading but it does not indicate they Will not carry SNY at least for now..Subs of AT120 and higher according to DN are supposed to get their local RSN's as part of the AT 120 and higher..If dish does not take this out of their ads ,they are indeed misleading their potential custs
