DISHANYWHERE Problem (Again)

WOW! Color me shocked that they got this update out so quickly.

It looks nice and is fast but you can only watch content using a Chrome or Safari browser, which totally sucks.
When I first started using DA, it would only work on Chrome. I need to go check this update out! Embedded is WAY better than a stupid stand-alone player and full screen is actually FULL screen

Is the new Dish Anywhere interface only for computer browsers? I did not see any difference using Dish Anywhere on my Amazon 4K Firestick. By the way, I don't have to login every time on my Firestick. It logs in automatically. Every couple of months it requires me to reauthorize the Firestick.

I guess it needs more than that.

I have a Chromebox (like a Chromebook but just a beefier box and not a notebook). It's a new, over $500 model that was supposed to do Google Play and Android apps. But everytime I try to DL Dish Anywhere it won't do it and say it is incompatible with my device. Curses!. I was hoping the new version of DA would fix that, but curses again!

Now I noticed that under the Guide tap there is an sliding button for live streaming and THOSE channels work! (but nothing off the DVR or On Demand. ONLY the "live" streaming) Luckily I see they are adding channels all the time to the 'live streaming' option, so maybe that will become my workaround.

on edit:

WADDA YA KNOW?! Now the Google Play app wouldn't download as has been the case forever, but I noticed that my normal browser bookmark to DA had the updated version. And, just for the hell of it, I went to DVR and selected "Pennyworth" and, by jingo, the darn thing played. (as did Fox News from off the guide).

It takes a while before playing, but I'm guessing that's just a good buffer because it's playing great great with no jitter.

So, as Emily Litella said: "Nevermind!"

I didn't see a difference on my fire stick or my iPad. If I don't use the app on the fire stick for a few days, I have to reauthorize everytime. :eeek

My DVR worked, using Chrome. It was the first thing I checked

Looks like a big revamp of Dish Anyone is coming up. Lots of work being done on it.

Yup basically a total rewrite. Getting rid a lot of the old unused and obsolete technology and code. Getting rid of Flash and so much more.

To be clear, a Chromebook (or Chromebox) are certain types of computers that although they run a Chrome browser, that's all it has*. The underlying OS is unique and, up until yesterday, Dish Anywhere would not work on those products. The NEW Dish Anywhere design now works with my Chromebox and, I suspect, now works on most Chromebooks.

* I know that you can now download and run Linux on Chrome products, buy that is beyond my ken.

That could be why it didn't work previously on Chromebooks (see above). They default at not letting Flash play (don't know why, but I trust they have their reasons))

So anyway, kudos to the programers!
Security and Performance but mostly Security. Flash is a resource hog and has so many security patches it is a nightmare, we attempted to ban it from the network but there are a few essential utilities that absolutely require Flash, I'm looking at you VMWARE. We now only run Flash on a couple of select workstations that are as isolated as possible from the Internet.

Yeah....I suspected it was something like that. As Scott said, they cleaned it up and got rid of obsolete technology. I am sure now that having no Flash was why it never worked before.

So...new layout but many of my channels are missing.
Why?
When I was playing with it, I clicked on the "Streaming" button on top (which shows whatever channels is streaming) but when I clicked on Guide again, it showed only those channels and not the full slate.

I reloaded the page and the full guide came back.

Hopefully I am not letting the cat out of the bag here but I am hearing them are basically doing a total rewrite of DISH Anywhere as much of it was built on what is not mostly obsolete Sling technology.

It’s supposed to be ready by the end of the year. :)

Good News. Anything Dish can do to have its apps up to snuff with latest compatability and OS's. Meanwhile, I always use my Slingbox for viewing at the PC. I view at the PC a fair amount, so I am lucky I am not getting those DA at the PA/MAC problems. DA on all my mobile devices work well.

I build up to $6000.00 custom computers and have been using computers since 1980. Thankfully, my 14 yr old daughter has a chromebook, so I know what they are! :hatsoff

Can leased Joeys be used on another account?

Despite warning, I saved configuration with fewer satellites - help!
