Check to see what IP address your router has assigned to the Hopper and to your Fire Stick. You can usually find that info in the router setup, but if you can't, you can find them separately in the Fire Stick setup, and the Hopper setup menus.

At "Wireless/Access" part of the router webpage, I have one named Hopper3-br and two different things named amazon-3c00f6c04 and amazon-bd05f9991 under the 2.4GHZ tab.
Under the 5GHZ tab, I have 3 named amazon (amazon-ec74da3a5, amazon-33c302727 and amazon-bd67f5529) but no Hopper.
But, as I said, that's beginning to look like Greek to me.
As far as their IP addresses, they are all different. The one for the Hopper is 192.168.0.19
OK. The weird just got weirder. (not really....I think I noodled the answer after writing this. See below for my EUREKA moment)
A little background first.
I live with my niece and we converted a bedroom into an office because they assigned her to work from home over the weekend. They (her company) had Comcast come out to set her up. Now I already had Comcast to my computer, so they put a splitter outside and ran a second line into that new office. They gave her a separate modem and some box (Jupiter?) that creates a VPN. So, we have two modems and two networks. Now I hung the TV and put in the Firestick and connected to the home network. HOWEVER, I went in there as you suggested and the Firestick was now connected to her separate network. I disabled that network, reconnected the Firestick to the home network and then redid the disconnection of the modem experiment. This time Dish Anywhere kept working with the modem disconnected.
OK....so good to know. But what's now blowing my mind now is: Since the RG11 is split outside and two separate RG6s are run to two separate modems, why the heck did the Firestick stop running when I disconnected MY modem?
After giving it more thought, I think I have the answer. Since the Hopper was on my home network (while the Firestick was on another), once I disconnected the modem to the Hopper, it says "you have no Internet, so I can no longer "sling" to that device in the office". It really WAS going through the Internet....because it HAD too.

He is using a unit that has the modem and router combined together in one unit. When he disconnects the cable not only does the modem stop but the router also stops. This is why I always recommend using a separate modem and a separate router. When using a separate router intranet (the network within your home) will continue to work if the internet (the network to the World Wide Web) stops working.
Dish Anywhere initially needs a connection to the internet (world wide web) to authenticate the connection. After that, content on the Dish Hopper receivers that are on the same home network (intranet) do not use the internet. The exception is when you use Dish Anywhere to watch On Demand. On Demand content is streamed from Dish servers rather than your Hopper receiver.
When Dish Customer Service Agents tell you that Dish Anywhere uses internet they should qualify their comment to say:
It uses the internet during the initial login and whenever watching On Demand content but it does not use the internet when watching content from a Hopper receiver that is on the same network (intranet).

PS. Disconnecting the cable from the modem did not shut down the router. It kept routing. (it is "unbridged", if that makes a difference)
Eddie, Yes, we finally have the answer!. The Fire Stick and Hopper were on different networks so the data went over the internet. Now that your Hopper and Fire Stick are on the same network they see each other, and the video data stays on your home network and does not go over the internet. That is how it is supposed to work!
I'm glad that you (we) persisted and found the answer. Now you don't have to worry about your data usage when using Dish Anywhere!

And Eddie, I hope you've also discovered that the Satelliteguys know their stuff. 
I'm constantly logged out everyday for some reason even though I've trained the browser to keep me logged in.
Yes, recently this started happening to me too. Every day I have to log in to Dish Anywhere, even though I have "Remember Me" checked (using a PC).
The "Remember Me" option does come in handy if you forget your password. Does it log you out after a certain amount of time within the same day? Does any message come up when it takes you to the login page?
Logs out everyday but I'm not able to check it hourly. Yes the remember me option is checked so I don't have to retype in info but it never did this before till here recently..I could stay logged in for days. Either the cookie expired and never was sent for a refresh or something else is wrong.
Same story here. I am using Firefox on my PC. I have the Remember Me box checked, but every day I have to log in. Once I log in, it usually stays logged in for the whole day, but after powering my PC off for the night, the next day I have to log in all over again. This only started happening recently. As dvrexpander said, previously I would stay logged in for a long time (at least a month).

Well a whole new look to Dishanywhere this morning.
It is connecting to my Hopper3.
HOWEVER
1. The entire GUIDE is not displaying
2. When I watch a channel, I see large internet activity even though the Hopper3 and my computer are on the same network.
I'll check out more later.

Got the GUIDE problem sorted out (DA was connecting to my VIP211, and changed to HOPPER3)
I now have the full GUIDE, with all previously marked Favorites.
The "internet activity" was the LAN traffic to this computer, which of course shows the streaming from the HOPPER3. I need to check the activity through my ISP. Trying to figure out how to do that.
So far, a Happy Camper.
It is connecting to my Hopper3.
HOWEVER

WOW! Color me shocked that they got this update out so quickly.
It looks nice and is fast but you can only watch content using a Chrome or Safari browser, which totally sucks.

Wow! I was using Dish Anywhere this morning with Firefox and it was not any different. After reading George's post, I just tried it again and Firefox has the new interface too! So far, it seems much more responsive than the old one, but nearly all of the tiles are missing from the DVR listing of recorded programs, making it impossible to tell which recording is which. ...Wait a minute, I can't play back any video, only supported with Chrome or Safari. I hope that Firefox will be supported in the future.
I like the new interface a lot, but I do not like that Dish Anywhere will no longer work with either of the 2 browsers that I normally use (Firefox , and Edge).

Trying to use Dishanywhere on my fire stick and I need to log in again ugh.
However when I go to the activate page it comes up that that page can't be found? Any ideas? Also looked all over the site and nothing.

That is what I got when I first tried to go to DA using my existing Bookmark.
I clicked the "Go to my homepage link" and it loaded the new DA interface.
I then bookmarked the new URL.

Thanks. I did that but It still wouldn't work on my phone or my ipad but i got it to work with my desktop computer.
