Dishanywhere: how to delete all of a recorded series?

bortery, are you only seeing one episode only listed when you click on a show or are you seeing for example the latest season you have recorded, then the last 3 episodes?

Through the DISH Anywhere website, you should see multiple recording/multiple seasons. The first section you will see is the Guide information. Second section below that, you will see "Season 8" of a show, for example. If you click on "Season 8", you will see all previous seasons you have recorded. In addition, there will be an arrow left and right where you can move through the season.

When you click where it says the season, are you missing all the others you have recorded? What browser are you using? -Christina W.

Thanks for the reply! I'll lay out my exact steps and what I'm seeing:

1. Log into dishanywhere.com
2. Click the tab up top that says DVR, it drops down.
3. I select "My recordings"
4. I see a show that I have multiple recordings for and I click on it.
5. At the very top I see the very latest episode that I have recorded. I can watch this if I so choose, it plays from my DVR, I can skip commercials, etc.
6. I see the a section below that that says guide.
7. I see a section below that that has a "Season" dropdown.
8. I click the season dropdown and select season 2.
9. It shows me every episode of season 2 and allows me to play them, but all of these are through the on demand service. When I scroll through the list to find the only 3 episodes of season 2 that I've recorded, none of them say they are on DVR. They're all just on demand and I can't watch the ones I've recorded through DVR, only through on demand. This means I can't skip commercials.

I see something identical to what Juncti above posted in their screenshot, but mine is for a different show. You can see in his screenshot it shows season 28, but everything in that list for me is on demand and none of them seem to be the recordings from my DVR.

I am using the chrome browser.

Thank you, bortery! When you try and watch the DVR'd episode on DISH Anywhere, do you get any error messages? Also, have you tried to use the app to watch the recorded episodes? -- Jake B

I can only watch the most recently-recorded episode of the series, because there's nowhere for me to find the other recorded episodes.

When I watch the most recently-recorded episode, there are no errors. It plays back just fine.

On the mobile app, I can locate and watch the previously-recorded episodes without issue.

But I would prefer to watch on my laptop when traveling, so watching on the phone isn't a very good workaround for me.

With the update to the website, the recordings are in a carousal-type layout with arrow buttons on the left and right of the 4 recordings listed. Once you pick the season you are wanting to view from the drop down above the DVR recordings, you should be able to use those arrow buttons to scroll through all of the recordings for that season. It will show the recordings four at a time when you do so.

No, several of us in this thread are trying to say that the issue we're seeing is that the carousel is NOT showing our DVR recordings. It only shows the on demand episodes of the show. So if a show isn't available on demand, there is no way for us to access prior recordings except the most recent episode.

I literally wrote out the steps laying out what we're seeing and why it's wrong, and Juncti sent a screenshot.

I want to watch my DVR recording, I don't want to watch an on demand version. And the bug we're seeing is that we CAN'T see the DVR recordings.

This is a bug that we would like reported to the engineering team.

From the website on Chrome. I attached screenshots of what I see. DVR shows I have 3 episodes recorded. Clicking into it, I'm only shown the most recent at the top. Which if I'm watching a series I don't want to see the most recent, I want to see the next one from where I left off.

Below that is the guide section which appears to be any future airings found in the guide. Then a season section which starts sometimes from the first episode of this season like in the picture, other series that have lots of seasons it might start at season 1 despite being season 13.

Then I get cast and recommendations below all that.

So not sure if I'm dealing with a bug or just missing something at this point.

Thanks

Juncti and JSheridan:

I randomly stumbled upon the solution today:

1. When you are on the DVR page for your show, there is a section for "Guide" and a section for "Seasons."
2. If you scroll to the episode you want to watch under "Seasons" and hover over it, there is an option that says, "More Ways To Watch."
3. If you click this, there is an option to watch it either On Demand or from your DVR.
4. I clicked on the DVR option, and sure enough, it's playing the recording from my DVR (I can skip to any point in the show, skip commercials, etc.)

Juncti, from your screenshot, scroll to the episode in season 11 of American Ninja Warrior that you want to watch, hover over it with the mouse, and see if you have the "More Ways To Watch" option. If you do, click it, and see if you can watch that episode from your DVR.

Some caveats:

1. I don't know if this was always here and all of us missed it or if it was just recently added.
2. If it was always here, I don't know why no one was able to tell us that this is how you access it. Dish should have documentation on their website for how to do this.
3. The only shows I have recorded were also available On Demand. I have not tried recording multiple episodes of a show that wasn't On Demand and seeing if the DVR option exists under "More Ways To Watch."

Anyway, looks like this is resolved. Apologies, Dish support members, for saying this was a bug. I do think that a) telling people that this is the way to access prior DVR recordings and b) having documentation on your website would help with this for anyone looking for it in the future.

Testing it out today, so far I haven't been able to find DVR episodes of shows that have no or few episodes on demand.

It really feels like they just need to show the list like the app does and the old web version did.

I did find one less elegant solution for the moment but it's certainly not ideal. I found a program called Nox Player. It essentially runs as a virtual android device on the computer. So I run this, installed the android dish anywhere app, and now I'm able to get the better app experience on my computer. I can see the list of shows on the dvr, I can see how much of the episode I've watched, I can resume in progress episodes, everything you'd expect from a remote dvr app.

Would be much better if the website version worked, but for now I'll use this app. Perhaps they should see about porting the android app over to a windows store app. Already had the dish player installed from the previous version of the site so wouldn't mind replacing that with a dish windows app.

Dang, sorry to hear. :/ It does sound like there's still a bug then. I agree, there should be a screen that lays out each episode you have recorded on DVR. Seems like basic, necessary functionality.

And, I just realized, even with the workaround for my issue, there's no way to *delete* a previous episode. I can only delete the most recent one. So that means if I record an entire series, I can't delete any of them until I watch them all through the last episode.

Sigh, maybe I'll try your Nox suggestion.

I will say, I know this thread kind of got off the initial subject, but this Nox player using the app also makes it way easier to delete items from the DVR. You can't delete in bulk that I've seen, but it's very easy to click on each episode and click delete.

So far I'd say this solution has been even better than the old website version. The app is just far superior for my usage.

If you do use the app, I recommend adjusting the settings to give it more cores and more ram. So far it only uses what it needs which for me has been about 12Mb of memory while playing a video, but it runs way smoother with 4 cores and at least 4GB of ram made available. Basically operates as a tablet on your computer with adjustable resolution so you can make it as big or as small as you need for your situation

Interesting; I'm the OP wanting to do a bulk delete of a series in Dishanywhere, but I have no problem deleting each individual episode in a recorded series either from the PC Dishanywhwere site (though I can't run it in Firefox) or on the app n my iphone.

How are you deleting each individual episode in a recorded series from the PC Dishanywhere site? Would you mind jotting down the steps here? My screen looks like Juncti's screenshots that he posted in this thread - i.e. neither of us can figure out how to see multiple episodes of a recorded series (except for the workaround I posted above, but that doesn't let you delete, just view...).

Ok, so just made an interesting discovery on the dish app I'm using. I'd assume the same function is on your iphone version.

I finished watching a few episodes of a show and was ready to delete them, I hit the delete button but it wasn't the one next to the episode name but up top near the name of the show. It brought up a menu that let me select multiple episodes and delete them with one press.

So even if you don't watch shows on the iphone, the app might be an easy way to delete shows in bulk for you.

I don't see that option on my iPhone app. :(

Hmm, here's what it looks like on android. The one with the arrow is up top near the show image, the one at the bottom with the X is the episode controls.

If I click delete at the bottom it deletes just that one episode, if I click the delete up top it brings me to another screen where I can select multiple episodes.

Yep, it looks pretty much like that on my iPhone app too. But if i click on that delete, up top, I just get an "Are you sure you want to delete this episode?" message and no options for multiple episodes.
