Dish Swings to Third-Quarter Loss

Where are you getting this? Back in 2011 my AT250 went up $5, not $8.

Honestly, I don't remember whether it was $5.00 or $8.00 ,but in the recent past I have seen $8.00 increase. I have had an increase in my programming pack or other FEES every year I've had DISH since 2000,except for this last year for the price FREEZE. Oh wait a minute! I did see an increase in FEES, when I went with the hopper and my dvr fee went up $4.00 a month. Back in 2000 I paid $69.99 for AEP with locals and NO dvr fee. Now it would cost me over $104.99 a month for AEP with locals & I would still have the $10.00 dvr fee on top of that. Besides Scott is betting we see an $8.00 increase as well. I am hopping it won't be that high.

That's pretty good. Is that on purpose or is it because Charter doesn't want to pay to get the filters set-up?

Pretty sure it's on purpose.Thought most cable companies were required to carry at least some clear qam?If nothing else the locals. There is a filter on the drop line.

All I can say is if they slap an $8 increase on us etf or not goodbye Dish. The only exception being if its $8 for 2 years which would be $4 per year.$8 is waaaay too steep with no price freeze. If they don't want to have a record loss in Q1 of next year they need to stay well on the south side of $8.

I don't know about leaving, but I would downgrade to the top 120 if I think the price increase is unreasonable. If Dish is worried about their piggy bank, they should stop suing-n-losing and cut their call center, personnel & other general costs.

So glad I work for Dish. I don't pay anything.

Oh, you're paying all right, just in a different way and with a different medium of exchange. ;)

Dish say's their call center costs are too high, why wouldn't it make sense to reign in cost to avoid price increases?

Because historically saving money on call centers = outsourcing to India = low customer satisfaction = higher churn rates = higher costs.

Honestly,if dish would train their reps to the degree of the Dirt team, calls and online chats would probably be cut in half.

And you can provide numbers? No, you can't

I don't need to provide numbers, I can read and I have read their quarterlies and it is Dish that is saying their call center and personnel costs are too high. Have an issue with that? Tell someone who cares.

In the reported quarter, Subscriber-related expenses crept up 6.3% year over year to $1,810.8 million, driven by higher programming content costs and expenses related to call center operations.

General and administrative expenses grew 13.7% year over year to $330.4 million on higher personnel costs and professional fees to support the network.

Dropping off my DVD at blockbuster today, I noticed there was much more signage for Hopper and Dish in general. Also a Help wanted information sign. Thought that was a good sign that at least for now they are looking at hiring more folks at the video store.

Dish already outsources. Apparently its not saving them any $$.
Where is Dish outsourcing to, Canada? I've never talked to a rep who had a foreign accent. Even on a Sunday morning. I can't say that with any other service provider I've had.

EDIT: I take the last sentence back. I have Wide Open West as my internet/phone provider and I've never talked to a csr of their's with a foreign accent either. Maybe that's why both companies are highly rated in consumer surveys?

I don't know how it is now with dish, never call with the exception of the loyalty calls over the AMC dispute but,in the past I had the mis-pleasure of speaking with a few reps that English definitely wasn't their primary language. Thanks heavens for Dirt, satguys, and online chat!
