Dish smart care problem

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. Every year about this time, my elderly mother comes to visit for a couple of months and we bring along her Dish box so she can watch her Fox and CNN news while I am at work (all I have is HDTV local channels).

This year, it didn't work. Her box gets both sat channels + locals. And my dish dish only gets the sat channels. In the past, this was not a problem. This year, with the new smart card, it loads the sat channel info fine, then gets stuck looking for the local channels (which it will never find.) It keeps searching, searching, searching... never stops.

She is very frustrated, which means I am very frustrated too. :( Anyone know how to make it stop searching for the local channel sat connection and play the regular ones?

Thanks!!!

Chris

Need a little more information. Where are you located? Where is she located? Sounds like she gets her locals from a spotbeam and you are not able to see that spotbeam from your location. She could put her account on hold while she is staying with you and you could add locals for that same period.

Thanks, lakebum! She lives in MS and I am in Dallas. I don't have a subscription to Dish, but there is a dish left on the roof from the folks I bought my house from. I don't believe it is the same dish she has, and I don't have a ladder long enought to see it upclose.

But again, the "regular" sat channels still work fine, load the program guide, etc. Just can't get it to stop looking for the local feed.

Did you run check switch on the receiver? She will need to do the same when she gets back home.

What satellites showed after you ran check switch? I assume 119 and 110.

You can press Menu and then Guide (Option 1) in the remote to see the channels guide and then change to another channel.

:) OMG, I got it to work! Thanks everyone!!! Not exactly sure how I did it. When I first set it up, I didn't hook up both sides of the receiver, just one. When I did the switch test, it reported an error.

Then, I hooked up the sat dish feed into both 1/2 of the box, and restarted. It said there was a switch error, and the only option was running test. I did, and everything turned up good. And then it acquired the signal and it's on.

I can't thank you enough. Dish is frustrating enough on ordinary things. I can't imagine every getting their help on this.

Mom is going to be a happy camper tomorrow!!!
